Is This Acceptable?

Random but serious question...

Is creating your own religion (but not a God) acceptable? Here are some examples of what I mean:

1. One must not use foul language at themselves or others.
2. One must not create conflict. (i.e. create drama, instigate fights, etc)
3. One must be selfless.

You know, something like that? Kind of like creating your own belief system to follow. Some may actually fit in an existing religion, but sometimes people don't 100% belief in said religion. For example, I believe in somethings that are in the Christian bible, but a lot of it I disagree with. Therefore, I cannot be a Christian.

I am not sure if I'm making any sense, but I really hope you all understand what I'm trying to get at.

Sure, why not? Heck, invent your own god too if you want.

Yes. I dont see why it wouldnt be?

It takes time, really. That, and slowly seperating yourself in how others define religion and how you see it. Like shredding an onion. You'll cry in the process but the point is to protect your eyes rather than choosing the best looking onion glasses. Its for your wellbeing. I never had a problem with former religions but on RF, I notice the pattern and many get through it by talking to others and learning about religions they find interest. A few have shed their outer skin and others are chameleons; it takes time.

Not to the point, but depending on what you agree with you could be a follower of the Christ without being associated with the religion.

Be your own guru
All religions say this. This is a requirement of a peaceful society. Other religions have branded them as their own. No harm, if you brand it as your own and something which was not there before you thought of it. Here, it is part of 'Dharma'. And 'Dharma' pre-dates all religions.

Everyone creates their own religion; even when they think they follow one.

Souls will even perceive God in their own understanding; thus it is a continual refinement process to come to a clearer comprehension.

Just always be capable of change, and be willing to question.
1. One must not use foul language at themselves or others.
2. One must not create conflict. (i.e. create drama, instigate fights, etc)
3. One must be selfless.

You're religious structuring already has issues, you're stating 'must not', similar to the 10 commandments, and authoritarian belief systems will always cause equal and opposite reactions.

Word it to create a sense of wanting to comply, that it is the inevitable most logical progression, and then your religion will expand consciousness, rather than stifle it.

In my opinion. :innocent:

More than a few thought it was. Hence the reason we don't all follow the same religion (or the same God for that matter).

I agree with the second poster, sure, why not? You have as much right to create your own religion as anyone else.

And, IMO, you ARE a Christian if you are a follower of Jesus, regardless of whether or not you believe in the "Christian bible." I had one Christian tell me once that I had to believe everything Paul said or else I wasn't a Christian and couldn't be saved. That's nonsense, imo. 80% of the Christian bible is the scriptures of the Jews. And Christianity didn't get 10,000 different sects, or 30,000 whichever it is, by people not creating their own religions. They're existing now, but they weren't before. Someone just made them up or modified an existing one into a new one. Here's really all you need to know to be saved (imo), right from Jesus' lips:

...Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? (Luke 10:25)
"Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself." (Luke 10:27)

"Not every one who says to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven." (Matthew 7:21)

"For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother." (Matthew 12:50)

Well, what you have there is a set of moral principles and not a religion. You need a lot more for it to be a religion.

Like what? Priests? Popes? Nuns? Confessionals? Scapulars? Rosaries? Incense? Holy Water? Your religion?

religion
the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods.

No, not necessarily my religion. Not sure why you'd think that.

Well, I thought you were going that way when you said: "You need a lot more for it to be a religion."

And your religion HAS a lot more. A whole lot more. All those things I listed and Catechisms and Magesteriums and Imprimaturs and Missals and catacombs and Stations of the Cross and gold chalices and purple and scarlet clothes and candles and relics, jewel encrusted skeletons, and on and on.
