There should have been a "Both" option, as others before me have said.

Atoms have a "beat" which functions like a time signature of the physical universe, but knowing the only constant of reality is change, how we percieve time is wholly illusory. Being beyond the active sense-range of human beings (we can't hear atomic beats), our perceptions of change creates time as a force or impression upon the psyche. But it (time) has no intrinsic value @ all.

From the perspective of light, time stands still as it traverses the universe, essentially arriving instantaneously at its destination. From the perspective of any other observer, it is only traveling at the speed of light.

Alternatively, to light there is no intervening distance between the electron that emits it, and the electron that absorbs it, even if this electron pair is (to us) in separate galaxies.

Can't brain. Has dumb.
At the end of our days time is merely an illusion - a relativity that doesn't exist in the realm of the absolute.

But for our experience - it is real to those who make it.

But I'll say this:

Time really isn't.

Time is illusion there are cycles that announce change in the enviornment (seasons) but when I say Time I mean the following:

6 AM - Wake up
9 AM - Get to work
5 PM - Go Home
7 PM - Have Dinner
10 PM - Watch TV
12 PM - Goto Sleep

Thats the illusion that we set up a system of time to lead us from one place or event to the next. Through this illusive system we have stopped being human but have become human doing's. This illusion has led to stress, poor health, many uncounted lateness and depression. Its an illusion set up by your less than perfect aspect to keep you moving and stop you from thinking about the more important things in life.

This time we set up is transient and temporary, we don't need it but we think we do!

That's a good point. The role and significance of time has changed a lot for me, in recent times. I no longer count it, as I used to; because have no need to. Or at least, I try to remind myself, that I don't need to count it.
