Isaiah 53:8

Christian translators?

Maimonides the greatest of the Rabbis taught Isaiah 53 is speaking of the Messiah

Which are you claiming ? He didnt know Hebrew or didnt know how to interpret scripture

I would say Maimonides is one of the greatest Rabbis. But I could one up that. The Talmud also quotes verses from Isaiah 53 as referring to the Messiah. It is from there that Maimonides took it. Rashi does it too. But that doesn't bother me, because the Talmud is not discussing the literal meaning of the verse. It is learning an allusion to an idea from a verse that speaks about something else. It happens often throughout the Talmud.

Sure, you are welcome to defend him, but anti-Christian and anti-missionary views are not going to win the day in interfaith dialogue, sorry.

He is supporting every single thing he said with scripture and grammatical analysis. The counter-argument is that God ultimately decides all...

How do you not get why it's frustrating.

And to discard ones own religious beliefs is quite obviously the right thing to do.

Only if they are based on hatred and racism.

Neither is obsequious pandering.

It is not pandering to speak to people of other religions in a respectful and open minded manner. I am new here, so I am just forming those relationships. But I see a lot of disrespect shown on this board. New posters often mention it. And many of them leave.

Supporting fallacious arguments with scriptural and grammatical arguments does not make them true.

There are other counter arguments. But I too believe G-d's inspiration is essential.

Sure, it is frustrating to some that the world is changing. The ability to communicate by Internet was not possible 20 years ago. We should not just dig at old wounds thousands of years old. We should use it for peaceful purposes.

that's correct. And the smart thing to do is not to call them fallacious and leave them at that, but to counter with ON TOPIC arguments, also supported by scripture...

We all do, but that has nothing to do with the topic.
Is it the lion or the tiger than runs faster? I believe it's the tiger because research has shown blablabla... then comes Mr. Debater and says: "my position is that God decides which one runs faster..." Still don't get it? Sorry but I doubt it could be any clearer.

Please explain to me how you see a relation between Isaiah 53:8 proving or disproving evidence of a messiah, and the internet, or how it changed the world.
Are you suggesting the internet is our messiah? Please show me through scripture.

This is exhausting...

90% of the people on these forums already have their minds made up. And no amount of facts or evidence will change their beliefs, and that includes me as well, i know it.

The purpose of these debates is not to "win the day", but to continuously learn more about what we already know and what we don't. It's about learning the about the logic behind others beliefs. when they don't make sense to us, that person can start a debate to get to the bottom of things. No one is trying to win the day...

This is a good post. I agree with everything except your last sentence. Some think they need to win the day for their team.

Why yes of course so much hatred and racism in this thread.

The premise of this thread is that referring to Isahiah, Christianity is based on a false premise.

How would you feel if the same claim was made of Judaism ?

Understanding that notion is what interfaith dialogue deals with.

Uhm the claim that Judaism is wrong is as old as Christianity, actually its one of the reasons Christianity exists.

The only thing that changed is that after around 1900 years of fearing for our lifes we can finally tell them how we feel about the whole matter without forfeiting our lifes at the next progrom.

The Scriptures tell you to do what the Christians are doing for you. Talk to them, understand them, teach them. Be a light to the nations.

It won't be a joke much longer. I suggest you get started; population growth will increase tension- especially considering the future of our global economy.

Why can't you talk so clearly like this the whole time???

It's very hard to communicate the fullness of a reality, in any language. God wills.

The teaching is that Babel caused God to divide the Hebrew language into many languages, for mankind. If so, what will cause Him to bring the languages together again?

I am confused how one would expect Jews to not argue for Jewish interpretation of their scriptures on a religious debate forum...

2014 is gonna be a strange year

Thats a frubal.

Why can't you talk so clearly like this the whole time???

Some people only start to write/talk in gibberish once its about their religious beliefs to convince/scare the poor farmers of the nearby village that the devil destroyed their crops or because some meteor was sighted.
