While I know you do not mean any harm, I am hesitant to accept any sort of "Islamic music," as I have heard that in Islam music and religion should be kept separate.

Salamu `alaikum brother,

There are haram music as well as halal music. I follow the opinion of scholars who say that music which bring you close to God and remind you of Him is of course halal music. You can read more about music whether it's halal or haram in the following link:

Response: I agree. You will get many different views from many muslims, even scholars, on music in islam. But I believe that music in islam is halal to an extent. But the best kind of music in islam is simply the reading of the qur'an in it's beautiful modes of recitation. No instruments needed. Muslims are better off without the music element. Surely the music feels good, but it distracts from the inspiration of the qur'an. People are more into feeling good from the music than they are being inspired to actually carry out the deeds of islam which is why music, though some kinds are halal, is still better off avoiding completely.

Lyrics

Not In My Name

Is it not enough what you've done?
With all the bloodshed you've caused
Yet your greed drives you on
In your brutal race for acquisition
No land is left untouched
Driven by a vile ambition
To have the whole world in your clutch
Every single new addition
To your slave colony
Does nothing to dull your ambition
To leave no nation free
It is indeed a sad condition that you suffer from
This itching desire for a prime position
To have all under your thumb

Not in my name will you fight
Not in my name will you kill
Not in my name will you burn a child
Not in my name will you lie
Not in my name will you invade
Not in my name will you rape
Not in my name will you terrorise
Not in my name will you lie

I warn it's time to take heed
One day you'll find yourself pursued
By every person you've made bleed
You thought they'd been subdued
You were wrong
You were wrong
They've been freed
They've been freed

Against your evil methods of violence and intimidation
Against your hijacking and misinterpretation
Of my peaceful faith and revelation
I shout with billions in this demonstration

Not in my name will you fight
Not in my name will you kill
Not in my name will you burn a child
Not in my name will you lie
Not in my name will you invade
Not in my name will you rape
Not in our name
Will you dare to speak again
Not in our name

Well, I didn't like the idea that these singers like Wael Jassar who make clips with dancing girls who have little cloth on them, to record songs about the love of the prophet etc. How signing about the love of the prophet and at the same time you do the exact opposite of what he says and share in tempting Muslims away from his path!!! I thought he had no credibility. But then I listened to most of the songs of the Album and I actually liked them. I believe the idea of the Album is new. And his voice is very sweet and it touched me. I gave my skeptic view towards such effort another thought. I don't have to judge them because mainly we all make mistakes, we all deviate from God and the prophet's path at some point, still we are Muslims who love God and His prophet. True there are shortcomings but it doesn't stop us from praying upon the prophet when we hear his name for instance. Thus no matter what such singers do, they are Muslims at the end.

Still, I think we should get over the words and poems phase to the actions phase. How many songs are about the prophet and our love to him, yet we actually don't do much in reality.
