It’s Time For The Catholic Church to Lead The Way

According to the gospel accounts, Jewish authorities in Roman Judea charged Jesus with blasphemy and sought his execution, but lacked the authority to have Jesus put to death (John 18:31), so they took Jesus to Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor of the province, who authorized Jesus's execution (John 19:16).
All irrelevant. It was Pilate that had the authority to crucify, and Pilate who directed the soldiers to crucify. Do you honestly think washing his hands relieves him of responsibility? (And that's IF this actually happened.)

You don't get to be Prefect of Jerusalem by being scared of the locals or allowing them to push you around. Indeed, Pilate was far more vicious than normal Roman officials. Rome actually recalled him after his bloodthirsty, ruthless put down of the Samaritan rebellion. Remember that Rome routinely allowed its prefects to use violence. So imagine just how bad Pilate had to have been to be called back to Rome.

There is just no way in heck that the Jewish religious leaders strong armed Pilate into doing anything he didn't want to do. The responsibility rests with Pilate.

Personally, I don’t think it’s irrelevant. I think Jesus wouldn’t have been crucified if the Jewish leaders didn’t bring him before Pilate.

If the story of him claiming to be King of the Jews is true, and if the story is true of his violence in the Temple (during the week the Romans were trying to keep order during the Passover pilgrimage), I don't think Pilate would have needed anything further to crucify him. Romans crucified people for looking at them funny.

Well, the Jewish Authority’s saw to that. It’s not a big deal. Who cares really.

Given that Christians for 2000 years held Jews communally responsible for Jesus death, and persecuted and killed us for it, yeah, it is kind of important to me. It was only after the holocaust that churches disavowed this teaching, and even now, there are a very few churches that still teach it.

Well, personally, I believe they were responsible. I’m not responsible for hitlers despicable actions.

To be honest with you, this is the first time that I’m hearing that this was the reason that the German people did what they did. I always thought it was a race thing. Well that’s not entirely true. I wondered to myself one day if that’s why the Nazis did what they did, but I never looked into it.

Most Germans were not SS. The elite nazis certainly considered it a race thing. But most Germans, including soldiers, were Christians, either Catholic or Lutheran. They already had a very, very long history of antisemitism. Hitler knew how to feed their hatred. Christian antisemitic tropes include:
  1. Deicide: The belief that Jews are collectively responsible for the death of Jesus Christ, who was God. This accusation has fueled antisemitism for centuries.
  2. Blood Libel: The false claim that Jews murder Christian children to use their blood in religious rituals, especially in the preparation of Passover matzah.
  3. Host Desecration: The unfounded accusation that Jews desecrate the Eucharist (consecrated bread and wine used in Christian rituals), which has led to violent reprisals.
  4. Usury: The stereotype that Jews are greedy, money-hungry, and exploitative, particularly in their association with moneylending and banking.
  5. Conspiracy Theories: The belief that Jews are involved in secret plots to control governments.
  6. Moral Depravity: The portrayal of Jews as morally corrupt, often associating them with various social ills.
  7. Rejection of Jesus: The idea that Jews are "stiff-necked" or spiritually blind because they do not accept Jesus as the Messiah, leading to their portrayal as obstinate or cursed.
  8. Eternal Wanderer: The notion that Jews are condemned to be wanderers without a homeland, often associated with the "Wandering Jew" legend.
  9. Supersessionism (Replacement Theology): The belief that the Christian Church has replaced Israel in God's plan, rendering the Jewish covenant obsolete and implying that Jews are no longer God's chosen people.
  10. Responsibility for natural events: Christians often accused Jews of poisoning wells, making people sick. This was especially common during the Black Plague.

You got some nerve asking me that.
???? If I am not sure, I ask. You may have addressed this before. However, I am a flawed human being. I read so many posts in here, that I often forget what people say. It's not that I think they are uniimportant or that what they say isn't worth remembering. It's just that it's too much for me. If that is what happens, then please accept my deepest apology.

From your reaction, it appears obvious that you apply this only to the religious leaders. Thanks for that. :)
