The committee was disastrous. And bringing it back would be a disaster. That was the orginal intent of the committee. It was designed to put the brakes on both ends of the spectrum fascist or communist. Either extreme is disastrous.

When you state it that way, I agree with you. That was the orginal intent of the committee. It was designed to put the brakes on both ends of the spectrum fascist or communist. Either extreme is disastrous.
Picture this.Robeson was not a communist.
Visiting the USSR, laying wreaths on the graves of anti-fascists and saying what he thought of the personal characters of different people was not criminal. He was a civil rights leader in that era.
Do you really think the interrogation in that transcript was acceptable? Jesus
These people are literally calling for the suppression of political opposition and socialist/communist figures. They still don't realize that they are the fascists here. Or they do, and they just don't care.
They're not interested in the meanings of words. I chuckle when I hear conservatives calling left wingers fascists. Does not compute! They still don't realize that they are the fascists here. Or they do, and they just don't care.
I hate the fascist right as much as the communist left. :O)When you state it that way, I agree with you.
The issue I'd want to watch is when he has to answer for his claim of why should he repent/ask forgiveness. That's something a godless commie would say. "2" Corinthians? Has he never stepped foot in an American church? Russian questions would also be interesting, as would the affairs against his wife, praising dictators, responding in a condoning way towards military parades, ridiculing troops and their family... I'd come out looking like a model citizen with some rough edges compared to Trump.Picture this.
Trump in front of HUAC being grilled about his top level Russian connections. Questioned about why he has so much praise for Putin. Business dealings with top government officials. Why did he appoint Flynn to a top USA security post, knowing he'd lied about conversations with the Russians.
And why won't Trump release his financial records? "WHAT ARE YOU HIDING MR TRUMP!?"
In the background, J Edgar Hoover is going over Trump's whole life. He's digging up dirt on every sexual or business misdeed he can find, to use against Trump.
Trump wouldn't survive HUAC for 5 minutes. He'd be running away, crying like a 5 year old, faster than you can say Stormy Daniels.

While I agree with the latter, Communism is definitely left wing and fascism right.Neither Communism nor Fascism are left wing. They are the anthesis of liberty. You need to ground yourself in reality.
You clearly havent looked at the CPUSA website. It's pretty much the mirror image of what the Socialist Democrats are. Almost verbatim. No one is advocating communism. But there's a bunch of people on the right who unknowingly are advocating fascism. The republican party is moving to the right of 'conservatism' and into the fascism realm.
And you want to play McCarthy in the middle.I hate the fascist right as much as the communist left. :O)
Fascism is the the very far and extreme Right. Communism is on the very far and extreme Left. Liberty/Dictator type thingies is more of a "South/North" thingie.Neither Communism nor Fascism are left wing.
A modern Un-American Activities committee of the House would undoubtedly object to Trump's authoritarian leanings. However in practice they only cracked down on European branches of fascism. As most people who protested the committee (such as Paul Robeson in the video above) noted that it's activity bordered fascism, if not being outright fascist itself.
Make no mistake, if the committee was reestablished it would not work against Trump and his base, it would serve them.

I never heard anyone refer such as anything other. I don't know where you got that information from.
I read his book, "Here I Stand".Doubt that considering what he said. You didn't read about this guy did you?
How can the government do that when communism, as you are approaching it, becomes stateless as the state works to disassemble itself?Communism calls for the end of capitalism and private ownership of any belongings. The idea is that the government provides all of one's needs, and in turn, the individual contributes whatever they can to society. There is NO liberty in that.
How can the government do that when communism, as you are approaching it, becomes stateless as the state works to disassemble itself?
That depends on who you are referring to by "this country".I don't know..... but I know another "red scare" is the last thing this country needs. McCarthy ruined the lives of a lot of innocent people. People never learn.
A reiteration of my signature for those in this thread desperately need to hear it:
"To place Russian communism and Nazi-fascism on the same moral level, in the measure that both are totalitarian, is superficial at best; fascism at worst. Anyone who insists on this comparison could very well be considered a democrat, but deep in their heart a fascist is already there, and naturally they will only fight fascism in a superficial and hypocritical way, while they save all their hatred for communism." -Thomas Mann
