In the news today.....

The so-called gig economy will cease to exist in 20 years, according to a new report from venture-backed start-up Thumbtack, an online marketplace that helps skilled workers find customers.

The study predicts that logistics companies — from start-ups like Uber to tech giants like Amazon — will soon replace drivers and delivery workers with autonomous vehicles and drones. Highly skilled workers, such as lawyers and accountants — no longer guaranteed jobs at big firms — will be the new gig economy workers, the study finds.
Of course, many others notice that automation & smart machines will upset the apple cart.
So I get no credit for stating the obvious.
But I've been yelling about it a lot....& will continue.
I've no solution.
Anyone?

There will be economic turmoil as we transition to an economy with a large permanent unemployable class supported by the state.
Add insult to injury immigrants will do the lower paid manual for much less than an american .
Overseas workers some work at gunpoint for bowls of rice , is a kettle in Walmart a dollar , bargain
Is new world order communists money as good as free man money is new world order .

And robots will work more cheaply than immigrants, many of
whom would have to immediately go on welfare upon arriving.

What? Me worry?

Robots or immigrants? Seriously wouldn't the lack of these jobs stem the flow of immigrants, legal and otherwise?

Robots or immigrants?
The latter.
Although.....robots could be programmed to go on welfare.
They'd probably require less assistance than humans.
It could be pretty cost effective.

It would.
But this new labor trend would increase the welfare state portion of the economy.
With immigrant votes being so powerful in our elections, they might be encouraged
to come here, legally or otherwise.

Oy, warnings of impending doom again?! What will happen is what has always happened with technology. Workers will be retrained to new jobs or doing their existing jobs in new ways.

What communist money? Let us run the place, and there is no money. And we'll probably be heading that way, with a large blend of Socialism and Communism for our economy, because machines are going to leave too many people unemployed, which is only going to exacerbate the problems associated with poverty. And the slower things change, the bloodier the revolution and replacement of Capitalism will be.

That's been true in the past, as workers were still useful.
(I'm interested in industrial economic & technical history.)
But this is a sea change in that many workers won't be
able to do anything which a robot couldn't do for less.
We will see a temporary surge in service sector jobs,
where bots will be slower in becoming able to deal with
complexities of interacting with humans, but this too will change.
I'm looking at a 30 year time frame for this change to become
fully evident & difficult to address.

The same phenomenon will happen overseas, albeit with a time lag in less developed countries.
Already happened in UK , with peak oil prices needs special skills or good education , or arts or sports or private own business etc
US has lil roll on oil production at the moment , or things be lot worse.
