Then we get to eat sand like the iraquis
Or we could learn how to cooperate and share. It's worked pretty well for us in the past, and work again if we were more focused on "us" instead of "me."
The could become better at being human than we are.
But it would require very sophisticated AI for them to
be as messed up as we are.
Perhaps. We better all start watching a ton of Japanese anime to study the subject.:D
Nah, they would never violate the Prime Directives. Would they?
The Prime Directive is the primary principle behind Star Fleet's explorations mandating that they not interfere with a pre-warp civilization (Star Trek). I think you may be thinking of the Three Laws of Robotics from Runaround, in which the first rule is that a robot cannot bring harm to a human and must protect humans from harm.

I worked 8 years at a huge GM auto making complex.
This factory once had 12,000 employees worked 3 shifts + overtime.
When I was hired there were less than 2,000 employees.
More efficient machines doing more work, improved auto designs
using less parts, and ROBOTICS galore.
I used to watch these monsters in fascination.
They never stop, never get sick, never go on strike, never ask for
more of anything in anyway. They, like all machines, do break down.
When they do a specially and highly trained bunch of technician swarm
on the thing, diagnose the problem, fix it, and the line just keeps moving.
Two finished cars per minute flow off that final line!

In the news today.....
http://www.cnbc.com/2016/03/09/how-robots-will-kill-the-gig-economy.html

Of course, many others notice that automation & smart machines will upset the apple cart.
So I get no credit for stating the obvious.
But I've been yelling about it a lot....& will continue.
I've no solution.
Anyone?
One of my friends has cited future automation as the main reason for his support of luxury communism, as described in this article http://www.theguardian.com/sustaina...-automated-luxury-communism-robots-employment, preparing for a new post-work society.

Personally I don't have any great solutions either, but automation has been happening for decades. Where are the bank tellers gone, many jobs are now automated. Has this led to mass unemployment? Not yet. The market seems to adjust and balance itself out somehow. I'm just gonna hope it remains the same, if not we'll have to address the problem when it arises.

Our economy has adjusted to automation. SO FAR!
If the manufacturing business continues to provide a majority of good paying
job automation will displace UNSKILLED workers.
There will always be a market for SKILLED jobs though the required skills
may change.
I cant yet imagine no market for doctors, nurses, repairmen in a variety
of work arenas.
Really the need for robots is very limited.
Think about it.
What is mass produced that requires lots of unskilled labor besides
the auto manufacturing process.
Well I can think of some.
Light bulbs by the billions.
Bottling businesses. Milk, wine, soda, etc.
Even the hot dog business is highly auto mated.
These kinds of manufacturing businesses aren't like to go away any time soon.
Electronics are highly automated.
Yet our unemployment rate is pretty consistent.

I don't understand this.
Besides, all real economic systems like cheap labor, so this is hardly a criticism of any particular system.

It is notoriously difficult to even scrape a living by being an artist of any sort. Science requires years of schooling (a problem that can be fixed if people weren't so greedy). And even the service sector is going in a direction that is making it more difficult for some. We're still at a point where I can work on people's cars in my own garage, but many newer cars you have to have the right machines to set different things for maintenance. And with other things, with jobs becoming harder to get and more people having less money, I won't be surprised if we see an increase in people learning how to do their own repairs and services.

Again, we cannot just say that what has always happened will continue.
The fundamental difference is that before, automation opened up new jobs,
often in other areas, eg, warehousing, shipping, sales. Expanding markets also helped.
But markets cannot expand forever, ie, there'll be a population limit.
And now automation with intelligent & flexible machines will take the jobs themselves.
Note that with minimum wage laws & gov required benefits, the lowest cost worker will
be able to perform fewer & fewer functions where his value exceeds his cost.

Socialism.
Eventually even middle and high skill jobs could be done by robots.
Then every economy paradigm we have would need to be rethought.

Socialism or communism aren't needed at all.
Just a welfare state.
