Jesus a magician?

I don't even know what exactly "magic" is or is supposed to be outside of some psychological self-help exercise. The term is virtually meaningless to me.

I have a feeling that if the Jesus story is remotely true, it started out as a spiritual game of ‘telephone,’ where the beginning part of the story is drastically different than what it morphed into over the years.

God giving people special powers over others…why? Why do we imagine that God is this Being who needs to send out cryptic messages to ‘make us believe?’
