I think its in our rational nature to advance the ego. Especially if youre male, its a justified impulse you get and there is nothing bad about it(for you too, since you dont see things as bad or good). If your wife played up with someone else you could see it as a wrong(bad) deed and initiate atleast a divorce(balancing out the bad by justice) this is how a society works if everybody didnt care then there would be no justice and peoples hurts would receive no compensation.
Is it really justice, or is it just plain revenge ?.

So you think its wrong to practice 'revenge' in this case? The definition of justice, and many people might disagree, is a balancing out: like a scale. So if somebody places weights(bad deed) on one side you need to place a similar amount on the other side for the justice to work. A great example of old justice was 'a tooth for a tooth, an eye for an eye'. Just as if you take sombodies life you will either be killed yourself or more common today be placed in jail for the rest of your life(balance).
