Jesus Loves Me This I Know, for the Bible Tells Me so

Most believers, no matter what their religion, are born into their faith and believe pretty much everything they're told. As we grow older we tend to start questioning our beliefs, religious and otherwise. We may scrap the story of the Tower of Babel. Question the claim that we must remain a virgin until we marry, and start taking a second look at the notion that black folk are inferior. Sometimes we replace these with what we feel are more rational positions, or we may simply leave them lie. But whatever the case we come to realize that not everything we are told is reasonable. That in our estimation some people simply have it wrong. Of course, amid all this reassessment we start to more steadfastly hold onto what we deem to be true and proper. Sex before marriage really is oke-dokey, and black people are far from inferior. For Christians this assessment often involves the truth of the Bible, sometimes ignited by seeing other Christians falling away from their faith. Not convinced this is the right road to take, they hold onto the fact that Jesus Loves Me This I Know, for the Bible Tells Me so. And, if not inerrant, the Bible is taken as an authentic rendering of the truth. Dependable, trustworthy, and never-ever wrong.

My question is, how did you come to this conclusion? In short; what is it that convinced you that the Bible is true and worth relying on?

The problem arises in mans interpretation/translation/intent imho. This is where the problem occurs. I'll simplify to make an example using simple math.

2+2=4 this is truth (The Bibles message)

But some people dont see the 2 as a 2.

Some see 1.5 instead of 2. Which makes the answer really 3. Some see a 2.5 instead of 2 making the answer a 5.

Some people want the answer to be a 6 so they change the number 2 into a 3, so that their "truth" is justified.

This is the major problem imo, because I would wager there is only a handful of people if any at all that are able to see the equation for what it really is to begin with. The problem is further aggravated, because some people fudge the numbers to suit their idea of what the truth should be. Hopefully that makes sense.

The whole Bible is a collection of books by different authors, with some inspired, and some just made up...

We can not trust any whole book in this world, they all have corruption in some way...

Yet when we systematically go over the Biblical prophecy, these interlink across time to show that somethings have clearly taken place, and were foretold precisely.

So when we deal with the facts that we can all see, think that makes logical sense; it is just people are not logical, so they follow the bits that are made up, which in turn proves it is real, as it said that would happen.

In my opinion. :innocent:

I'm curious just how - and why - that was your one takeaway from the post?

It was funny. He was building this weak anti-bible arguement of bits and pieces of all his accumulated knowledge of anti-biblical ideas then stuck in the "black folk" crutch to try to help prop it up. It didn't make me laugh until I got to the black folk part so that's what I commented on.

Hardly. Here, since it looks like you stopped reading at that point, let me help you out a bit with the point:

what is it that convinced you that the Bible is true and worth relying on?
It's really sad that you missed and/or ignored this, @Kemosloby, as it's the only text in red. It practically screams "hey, look at me!"

Since his whole post is trash to answer the question would be like pulling the lid off a garbage can. Don't think I would be interested in the smell.

But, arguably, you can ditch the rest of the OP and still regard the question at the end as an interesting, indeed important question worth engaging with..

It's been done 100 times already. The answer is more than one line, more than a few paragraphs. What the OP is looking for is a short answer they can pick apart like a sardine.

It's prophetic reliability.

And, interestingly enough, millions of people are changing from their "born into" religion all the time so your statement is quite misleading. IMHO :D

Unsubstantiated, opinionated and wrong.

And....

Merry Christmas :D

Not sure what you're referring to, but with 80% sticking with Christianity I don't see any statement I've made as being misleading.

HOw about sticking with it because they believe rather than because they grew up in it?

Anyone who has accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior and has been indwelt by the Holy Spirit
knows with absolute certainty that the Bible is true and Jesus is who it says he is

Everyone else is just groping around trying to explain reality through their own mind

Proverbs 28:26 "He who trusts in his own mind is a fool"

So how does one confirm they've been "indwelt by the Holy Spirit"?

Well they do stick with it because they believe, and one of the reasons they believe is that they grew up with it.
That may be a reason... but in Christianity... growing up with it doesn't count. It is personal faith that counts.
