Most believers, no matter what their religion, are born into their faith and believe pretty much everything they're told. As we grow older we tend to start questioning our beliefs, religious and otherwise. We may scrap the story of the Tower of Babel. Question the claim that we must remain a virgin until we marry, and start taking a second look at the notion that black folk are inferior. Sometimes we replace these with what we feel are more rational positions, or we may simply leave them lie. But whatever the case we come to realize that not everything we are told is reasonable. That in our estimation some people simply have it wrong. Of course, amid all this reassessment we start to more steadfastly hold onto what we deem to be true and proper. Sex before marriage really is oke-dokey, and black people are far from inferior. For Christians this assessment often involves the truth of the Bible, sometimes ignited by seeing other Christians falling away from their faith. Not convinced this is the right road to take, they hold onto the fact that Jesus Loves Me This I Know, for the Bible Tells Me so. And, if not inerrant, the Bible is taken as an authentic rendering of the truth. Dependable, trustworthy, and never-ever wrong.
My question is, how did you come to this conclusion? In short; what is it that convinced you that the Bible is true and worth relying on?
