re
re-read my post. If they are not practicing, then those 10 out of several million are certainly irrelevant to what I posted.
If I understand you post correctly, you are saying that a factor in this success is the studying of religious texts; all I'm saying is that many Jews (Not just my unrepresented small sample) are non practicing, in fact many are non-believers but still identify as Jewish.

In my culture, a trade or just gettin' a job is valued more than higher education. In fact, my culture almost despises higher learning and academia. It's cultural.
What is your culture?

That seems to be the trend where I grew up too. There seems to exist a subtext of anti-intellectualism growing in this country.

I don't understand your comment.

What relevance do non-practicing jewish people have regarding a comment I made about practicing judaism.

I was explaining my comment.

Which still seems completely irrelevant.

What do you want to know about my Jewish acquaintances?

To start: Were they raised Jewish? What is their profession? What is their educational background?

Considering that Obama received the Nobel Prize for Peace shows how much we need to take Nobel stuff seriously.

I know...I know....
They keep telling me that.
Are they trying to convince me or themselves?

1. I was pointing out that non-practicing Jews were just as smart.
2. OK, if you say so.
3. Yes, they were all raised Jewish. Their professions varied, two shopkeepers, property developer, a couple of solicitors, two teachers. I met some of them when we were jointly opposing the creation of an Eruv near to my home town. I don't know their educational background but if you look at their careers many will need a high standard of education.

Of the 965 individual recipients of the Nobel Prize and the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences between 1901 and 2023, at least 214 have been Jews or people with at least one Jewish parent, representing 22% of all recipients. Jews comprise only 0.2% of the world's population, meaning their share of winners is 110 times their proportion of the world's population.

Jews have been awarded all six of the Nobel Foundation's awards:
  • Chemistry: 36 (19% of total)
  • Economics: 38 (41% of total)
  • Literature: 16 (13% of total)
  • Peace: 9 (8% of total)
  • Physics: 56 (25% of total)
  • Physiology or Medicine: 59 (26% of total)
That is very impressive.

While I agree with the general premise that Jews seem to be smarter - looking at Nobel Foundation awards as a metric is deeply flawed .. for reasons I will let you ponder.

The metric I like to use is Chess --- a competition where the prize is not "Awarded" to re recipient via pastisan board. 50% or more of the World Champions have been of Jewish Dissent. our of a population of 0.2 .. in a game where everyone can play .. another flaw with the above metrics ..where most of the worlds population are not able to play.

Meritocracy is a good argument.
Honestly I think that meritocracy is something disrespected, every day.
Most of the times, connections and acquaintances prevail. Not merit. In any field.
Religion is absolutely irrelevant. It's a coincidence.

They seem to be exceptional in everything but peace.
