Dear Americans: Grow up.

Otherwise nice video.
But then we wouldn't wear T-shirts, jeans, and sneakers everywhere, and then you wouldn't see us, and then you'd miss us because things would get too boring, lol!

Nah most of my entertainment comes from Japan.
I am quite sure that I would survive a world without Americans who are so prude.

the sad thing is that there are so many people out there who really hunger for spiritual help that they fall for con artists like this. it seems like things that are advertised on TV have to be tested and proved safe and effective, maybe it is time for tighter controls on what these people can can. they promise people that if they just send in enough money they will get all kinds of blessings but there is no truth to it.. something should be done

The really sad thing is the government which lets them get away with it.

"F" word or not, that was great. And I agree, the government needs to step in here and stop this ****.

Excellent, but a warning: you will hear the "F" word.

.

I love John Oliver and he definitely raised some good points, But I also think the way he went about it probably ostracized him from the people who are actually taken advantage by the Televangelists.

I think if anything his segment about it just made things worse for everyone, making fundie Atheists more derisive and giving them more ammo and fundie Christians more stubborn and less likely to see any other perspective because he just totally mocked their values.

'Fundie atheist'? What's that?

If someone is so desperate that they have a ton of credit card card debt, yet give some *** wipe $1,000 dollars or more, it doesn't matter what anyone says because such a person needs help.

There are no "fundie Atheists." In any event, he cannot hope to reach people who have been deluded into believing obvious lies. The target is the Internal Revenue Service and our absurd exemption system for any exploitation scheme that poses as a religious cult. Once they have to pay taxes, this nonsense will dwindle.

Sorry, Militant Atheist then? Although the word fundamentalist is thrown around so much that one could almost mistake it for the word extremist. But I digress.

I guess I understand what you're saying, But I don't like to think of possibly millions of people as just lost causes. I think a little education and a little truth could go a long way, Maybe they are the way they are because people don't bother to help them at all, they just write them off.

Fundamentalism is fairly well defined, in such a way that it is inapplicable to atheism. You mean, I suppose, honest or unapologetic atheism. Fair enough.

If Christians care about these lost causes, they should be out front convincing their flock not to give money to these charlatans and frauds. Yet strangely, they are not.

I do not agree with this. Many atheists really act no differently from fundamental theists when it comes to applying their views on the world, which includes mocking and ridiculing those who don't believe the same, using the "no true Scotsman" argument to define other atheists, and to define themselves within the confines of their own little bubble.

Ok, what is 'militant atheism' then? You seem intent on delivering an incredibly judgemental generalisation on all atheists - and at the same time protesting that John is alienating Christians. What does atheism even have to do with this thread? Why attack atheists when they are not the topic?
