Jordan Peters on "One night stand" people (60s)

Medium version: ca. 15 minutes

Long version: ca. 03 hours

I Googled if Jordon lived by what he preaches

Jordan would claim that it was a case of love at first sight, going so far as to tell his father about his intention to marry her when he was just 11 years old. Sure enough, the two were wed in 1989 and are still together to this day.21 sep 2023

I was wondering if it was about over 60s doing so - and which might be a more amusing question.

But a third option might have been useful, given that there might be some truth as to what he says - so no vote. :disappointed:

When people get paid to talk, they never seem to shut up.

Of course one night stands are dangerous. So is drinking alcohol, taking recreational drugs, listening to loud music, and dressing lewdly in public. But certain personalities are drawn to these things. Like mountain climbers to the conquest of fear. I would not want anything to do with these, but I am not the yardstick by which anyone else should be governed. Peterson seems to think that he is.

Meh... I'm not really a fan of Jordan Peterson, personally. He kind of reminds me of Dr. Phil. Lots of grand standing. Lots of opinions. Lots of grifting

As someone who's had one night stands, **** him and the horse he rode in on.
Hiw about he mind his own business and not be such a pretentious moral uppity dingus over it?

Jordan Peterson is a grifter who's idolized by incels.

Yes. He also seems to be going a bit nuts. As usual I'm not watching one of his videos to find out what nutty ideas he may be advocating;).
Those who have one night stands are psychopaths, narcissistic and Machaivellian.
Anymore I like listening to him just to repeat his boneheaded claims to RWers who have a media diet rich in his junk. My favorite dummy of the year statement from him was when he told Sam Harris that he, Sam, lives his life as thiugh he believes god is real. I don't think anyone can hold the chortle than came from Sam against him.

His claims of serious psychiatric issues is a load of bollocks.
Well, the behaviour being perfectly normal is hardly truthful - a diet of one-night stands - and there is probably some anomaly driving such, given that most people will probably do the least amount of this so as to find one satisfying partner.

Hmm. Uncharacteristically, I once had a one night stand. English woman called Mary I got chatting to on the train from Singapore to Bangkok, who had just split up with a boyfriend in Singapore. She had no plans or hotel booked so we spent the evening together and ended up in my bed. I think she was feeling lonely and angry with the boyfriend. Seems a bit harsh to call either of us narcissistic or psychopaths.

Looks as if Peterson may be speaking ex ano. Mind you, I do think it’s a bit off to make a habit of one night stands. But I’d be going down the route of failure to commit, fear of friendships etc, rather than these Trumpy failings he talks about.

Where did you get this trope from - given I doubt it is true? I suspect that most simply enjoy this special kind of exercise in beautiful surroundings with friends and whilst building up their skill sets. Fear I think is probably not that much of a consideration, given that one usually requires confidence to be safe.

It would be all about fear to me. But that wasn't the point. The point was that Peterson is not the yardstick by which anyone else's behaviors and choices should be determined, and neither am I.

No, Peterson is just being a pompous, holier than thou ******* who just wants to unfairly judge and demonize.

If we had the whole video he hopefully would back up his claims with some facts, so we'd have something other than his intuition to go on.

I also would prefer it if the cited video could be confirmed to be Jordan Peterson and not a fake, since its not on his channel but on some other channel called 'Growth'. It looks like him, but I always tell ytube not to recommend no-name channels that spam me with advice from famous talking heads. Deep fakes are easier these days what with Nvidia and AMD cranking out AI chips.

If you want to make your own deep fakes take at look at the 2-minute-papers channel and track down the technology from there. You can be anybody you want to be. That is why the FCC recently put out a competition (too late to submit an entry) for people to give them a way to resolve such issues.

Actually the FCC is looking for a way to protect citizens from fake voices on telephone calls, but the problem is bigger than that. Its entire videos. You can make your political opposition say anything.
