Enjoy getting bombed while you sit in a circle and sing hippie songs.
You're very paranoid and frightened. You probably have a better chance of being struck by lightning than your mythical situation. You must not live in America.
What are hippie songs? Classic rock? I bet you hate Jimi Hendrix too.

Here's a scenario playing out all over the world right now: permanent residents who just happened to be out of the United States when the executive order was issued have found themselves either detained at airports in the US or refused passage in the countries where they tried to board their flights. Please tell me how keeping these taxpayers from their jobs - and therefore from their ability to earn taxable income - helps the American poor.
If they were here with a green card based on refugee status, how persecuted can they truly be if they are currently back in their country of origin?

You do realize that conservatives were democrats back then? The parties changed during the 50's 60's. Conservatives have been democrats more than republicans in politics through the centuries. American history 101. Learn.

It doesn't make sense that progressives would implement such a policy. But it makes sense conservatives would. Please don't mix up the ideologies of the parties at the time.
Doesn't matter to me, I'm libertarian, and both authoritarian sides are wrong. Conservatives = Liberals = Republicans = Democrats = Authoritarians. Learn.

Who says they're in their country of origin?

And we aren't only talking about refugees; we're talking about all immigrants.

And you didn't answer my question.

It seemed implied if they were "refused passage in the countries where they tried to board their flights".

If they are not citizens, they are not entitled to Constitutional rights; their privileges are revokable. I have personally known the situation where green card holders replaced citizens from their jobs, and in some cases have caused the latter to lose their homes.

Yes I did. You stated: "Please tell me how keeping these taxpayers from their jobs - and therefore from their ability to earn taxable income - helps the American poor."

There are only so many jobs available, and if a green card holder stole a citizen's job, then the citizen became poor as a result.

There aren't "only so many jobs." Immigration expands the economy. It brings in new customers for American businesses. It brings in new taxpayers, who help to pay for the infrastructure that the American economy depends on... and on and on.

So you claim that you know a guy whose job was "stolen" by an immigrant. How did the immigrant do this, exactly?

And how many people do you know who have jobs because of immigrants? How many work for an immigrant-owned business? How many work for businesses who grew thanks to immigrant customers?

I disagree. There is more to life than simply stimulating the economy.

I knew multiple people in that situation. They were paid lower than the citizens.

And how many people do you know who have jobs because of immigrants? How many work for an immigrant-owned business? How many work for businesses who grew thanks to immigrant customers?
Like I said, there is more to life than simply work & the economy.

Indeed... for instance, there's empathy and common decency. But those things are just as missing from your position as a real understanding of economics is. You're trying to justify xenophobia and bigotry.

Nope, I'm trying to defend citizens first.

Just like I would help my immediate family first, making sure they're adequately fed, clothed, and housed, before I help relatives, friends, and strangers. It's simply common sense. A poor, evil parent is one who would take the food out of their own child's mouth to feed a stranger first.
