First, you're linking to obvious non-objective propaganda which ignores the fact that the bill was created by JFK, pushed through by Johnson, and it was Hubert Humphrey and Mike Mansfield, all Dems, who were instrumental in breaking up the fillibuster.

I never said that dems weren't involved as well, but some of the dems like Johnson weren't to quick about going against their dem brothers.
Assuming that southern dems turned republican is kind of a stretch... Its more likely that their children became rep, and that doesn't mean they are racist still... its getting away from my point that dems were the ones for civil liberties and rep were not is false..... some dems are great people have great intentions for our country and I am glad they are there... but in your first comment you were trying to make the case that Rep were not there for minorities which is totally false.

Which is exactly why we *shouldn't* be in Iraq. Iraq had absolutely nothing to do with 9/11 and our unjustified invasion has only served to fuel the kind of sentiment and hostilies that caused 9/11 in the first place. I'm a registered independant. This thread was started in response to a thread saying LDS should vote Republican. If anything - I'm being non-partisan and fair by introducing the other side of the coin.

You have a point there, people do need to look at both sides and not blindly follow parties. However the other side you presented had many mistruths left-oriented people like to perpetuate. (Propaganda) Your motives may have been fair, but they came across as partisan.

Yeah you are right… they are totally true. Rep would hate to have more voters if they are of any diversity or wouldn’t want qualified people of diverse backgrounds to work in government. Rep hate workers and all stupid people who pay taxes, they are hatemongers. And of course Rep want to destroy the world and pollute it as much as possible. From now on I will disregard all facts because I am aparently a ‘Right-winger’ pretending to be independent. Even though I read the dailykos, I will accept everything they say as gospel truth, and will no longer critically read any right leaning stuff because they have no truth at all, only the left.

I have friends who were directly affected. I still remember the smell of burning jet fuel that lingered over the city for months. To this day, I cry when I see the Manhattan skyline and what's not there. So I do NOT!! appreciate your flippantly using pictures of the tragedy to further your insane hawkish agenda.

Yes, I remember 9/11. I remember that it was Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda that carried out those attacks, based in Afghanistan, and that the attackers were from Saudi Arabia. SO WHY ARE WE MIRED IN IRAQ? Why are our soldiers dying there?

response to 1. sorry but this is a load of crap. Racists are everywhere; democrat and whatever else too, republicans accept diversity and have had interracial candidates and cabinet members alike. To do a blanket sweep saying reps are LESS accepting than dems is wrong.

Did you even watch the conventions? See what the delegates looked like? And the people who spoke? I sat thru both. At the DNC I saw people of all colors, and even people of different religions (based on what they were wearing). The RNC was whiter than a powdered sugar donut.

Saying that you're accepting of diversity and appointing a few token people is not the same thing as actually being accepting of diversity. Heck, I'm not even satisfied with a party that is willing to "accept" diversity; we should celebrate it.
