Let's take Trump at his word

From CNN

Former President Donald Trump is planning a widespread expansion of his first administration’s hardline immigration policies if he is elected to a second term in 2024, including rounding up undocumented immigrants already in the US and placing them in detention camps to await deportation, a source familiar with the plans confirmed to CNN.

The plans, first reported by The New York Times, would necessitate building large camps to house migrants waiting for deportation and tapping federal and local law enforcement to assist with large-scale arrests of undocumented immigrants across the country.
Should Congress refuse to fund the operation, Trump could turn to a tactic used in his first term to secure more funding for a border wall — redirecting funds from the Pentagon, the source confirmed.
News of the proposals comes after Trump at a rally in Florida on Wednesday promised to conduct “the largest domestic deportation operation in American history” and argued criminals were coming through the US-Mexico border and warned of “young, strong people that had bad intentions.”

It adds:

Stephen Miller, a former senior Trump administration official who led Trump’s immigration policy, told The Times, “Any activists who doubt President Trump’s resolve in the slightest are making a drastic error: Trump will unleash the vast arsenal of federal powers to implement the most spectacular migration crackdown.”

We've seen this before.

The they're-all-the-same cynics are ignorant, dangerous fools.

I was going to start a thread on this issue. Trump posted this this weekend, and then repeated it in a speech he gave, which he was reading from a teleprompter.

On Saturday at 10:25 a.m., he posted on Truth Social: “In honor of our great Veterans on Veteran’s Day, we pledge to you that we will root out the Communists, Marxists, Fascists, and Radical Left Thugs that live like vermin within the confines of our country, lie, steal, and cheat on Elections, and will do anything possible, whether legally or illegally, to destroy America, and the American dream.” Then, at a rally in New Hampshire later that day, he repeated those words essentially verbatim—promising to “root out ... the radical left thugs that live like vermin within the confines of our country”—and then doubled down on it: “The real threat is not from the radical right, the real threat is from the radical left, and it’s growing every day, every single day. The threat from outside forces is far less sinister, dangerous, and grave than the threat from within. Our threat is from within.”

Is this how a sane candidate runs for office in the USA? Who finds this appealing?

Yeah. Don't vote for Trump.
That's a fantastic start, to be sure.

But we have to back up and look at why people want to come here in the first place. It seems to me that - once again - it's because the world is now a de facto oligarchy. For centuries the rich / oligarchs have perpetuated the myth that to be healthy, economies must grow endlessly. On a finite planet, this is not possible. So humans are overshooting the resources of the planet. We must end the deadly myths of endless growth and endless population increase. If we do not, climate change will displace BILLIONS of people, and no wall will keep people from moving to higher / fertile ground.

Sure sounds like he's got Stephen Miller whispering in his ear again.

You can't blame solely your oligarchs.
The people want to expand the population, & oppose
limiting its growth. The masses want more income.
Leaders respond to these voters. This means economic
expansion has nearly universal support.
I see it as a model doomed to failure.

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
What's your 'solution?'
A one time amnesty granted to those already whom are established and productive living in the US based on clean criminal records and screened health statuses , with strict enforcement and deportation directed towards future illegals into the country who don't willingly comply with the proper inprocessing and applications that any foreigner seeking citizenship would be required to go through. Also a simplification and streamlining of the immigration process itself would be beneficial as well.

I'd probably like to additionally see an international system set up comprised of liaison personnel dedicated to the purpose of relocating individuals fleeing their country to other countries that actually want and desire an infusion of residents to be their future citizens.

That would be my personal thoughts if I had the power.

Anything that does not violate human rights. Is that so hard a value for consrvatives these days?

Business knows that immigrant labor is crucial to America's economy, and Trump threatening to round up illegal immigrants and put them in camps (boy, that had negative consequences in 2018, plus the child separation that still hasn't been resolved) and deport them. How much will that cost? And how much loss to the economy will that cause? No doubt produce will rise in cost if there is no labor to pick harvests.

A better plan? How about allowing immigrant labor to apply to work in the USA for certain crucial jobs, and they have to pay taxes? How about they are allowed to live in certain states with temporary status, and allowed to either go back where they were born, or allowed to stay with a chance to citizenship. Offer them a deal of a five year probabtion where they have to work and pay taxes, and not get into any trouble. Then they can apply for citizenship. How hard is it?

That sounds OK. As long as background and health screening is included.

Personal thoughts aren't a solution, unfortunately. Actually voting for the person NOT threatening "vermin" is a concrete action.

Do you remember Reagan's amnesty? How do you think the GOP would react to a GOP-led amnesty? A Democratic-led amnesty?

One question I have: who is it exactly that Trump is referring to as "vermin"?

He is typically vague as to claim plausible deniability, but his followers have an idea who he is talking about.

You and that coup malarkey. ;0)
What do you call Trump's order that Pence overturn the election?
Having fake electors in MI?
Having fake electors in GA?
Exhorting MAGAs to storm The Capitol, & failing to order them to stand down?
Having his minions knowingly present false testimony that the election was stolen?

Those acts constitute an attempted coup.
This is treason.
Trump is a traitor.
And now he openly commits to a purge of his
political foes, & violent suppression of dissent.
And you still support him?
