Library Idiocy

I don't get it.

If you don't like the book, don't read the book! There's no need to destroy/censor/remove the material. Just don't read it. Its not that difficult.

There are all kinds of books at the library I don't want to read. That doesn't mean I should push to have the place shut down.

US library defunded after refusing to censor LGBTQ authors: ‘We will not ban the books’

Entire library in a small town in MI has been refunded over an LGBTQ book, that was aimed at adults.

Legitimately in a Culture War at this point, and it's pathetic.
With all this controversy of "human rights", religious freedom, freedom of speech and similar inventions, it is clear as day that the US will have a very hard time to fix issues that come out of their own ideology.

Jamestown has a small population of 8,618. They can decide for themselves what books are appropriate for their own community.

The more frightened people get, the more they want to control everything and everyone around them. And the constant fear-mongering of right wing politicians and media has been driving some of these people to an absurd level of desire for control. It's what's driving all this social negation and authoritarianism.

How can one person decide what books are appropriate for someone else? Would you want me deciding what books are appropriate for you?

Ok, how can 1905 people decide what books are appropriate for anyone else? Do you want 1905 people deciding what books are appropriate for you?

It is their community. Their library. I approve of them controlling what books to include on their own shelves. Why would I object to that? I can still create my own libraries online and at home.

Why do you think anyone needs to control what books are available to the public in a public library? After all, a public library is for every member of the public, not just the ones that don't like gay content. Or the ones that are Christian, or the ones that are white, or the ones that ... whatever.
