Library Idiocy

Truth in love

Well-Known Member
I don't get it.

If you don't like the book, don't read the book! There's no need to destroy/censor/remove the material. Just don't read it. Its not that difficult.

There are all kinds of books at the library I don't want to read. That doesn't mean I should push to have the place shut down.

It is the supplying of pron in many cases and almost always offensive maternal to children that is the point.
Public libraries are funded by tax dollars so offended if the funding base does not go well.

Experience and reason decide what is abuse and what isn't. As they decide everything.
Experience is very much individual thing, obviously those people who voted to defund the library have very different experience than what's your experience,
and it seems like you neither feel nor respect their experience? because otherwise you wouldn't suggest experience to have the final word.

If you think homosexual literature is abusive and should be illegal then share your experience and reasoning with us.
I think it's abusive because it encourages something which I find disgusting just like all those people who voted to defund the library.

That is the function of constitutions, to protect minorities from the oppression of majorities.
Yes institutions are the ones who should make decisions, but oppression of majority is not really an argument unless minority is abused, which is not the case here.

@PureX is quite right, we don't make laws to "make us moral."
I didn't say purpose of laws is to make us moral but rather that morality can't be excluded in decision making of laws.

There's a difference between pornography and a book that mentions LGBT themes.

This:https://www.amazon.com/My-Two-Moms-..._5?keywords=my+two+moms&qid=1659894744&sr=8-5 or this: https://www.amazon.com/My-Two-Moms-..._1?keywords=my+two+moms&qid=1659894784&sr=8-1 are not pornography. Hustler or Playboy would be pornographic material.

There are probably many cheap romance novels(from a heterosexual point of view) within that library that would border on being pornographic. Do you think they'd kick up a stink about those, too?

Reading the article the problem appears to be partly on how the city funds itself. A council should not put almost everything out there for citizens to vote on. The people that run cities should have the training to know what projects need what funds. The average citizen will lack this knowledge. It appears that just one book was what raised the ire of the ignorant folks of that city. There have been quite a few lies told about the memoirs of a transwoman of how she grew up. We have seen false accusations here. Councilmen and councilwomen need to bite the bullet and decide what the city needs themselves. If they screw up then elections can correct that. But putting issues to the people that really have no clue as to what is needed and why will end in poorly quite often.

And I am not sure if that city has to shut down the library. Quite often issues are put in front of the public with the claim that "this bill funds this project" when in reality the city, county, or even state will have a general fund. Seattle does this quite often. They will find a service that they think is secure and base a tax increase on the service. I have a feeling that even if that tax increase failed they would not end that service.

I am not about to spend the time finding out if this city uses a general fund or not, but if they do they could keep the library going. They would just have to cut all services a small amount.

I see you did absolutely no research on the subject.
It has been quite a while since I did. I can't name anything from the distant past, but from my memory that poster was right. It is a natural part of life. You seem to disagree. Do you have any evidence to the contrary? If so please use valid science based sources. There may have been some new discoveries since I last looked into this. Otherwise I will simply go with what I know from the past is the decision of mental health professionals.

In other words, your claim, your burden of proof.

The subject of LGBT? I have done lots of research.
No not that, you said homosexuality is not diagnosis of mental disorder because it was "learned" it is not,
can you please enlighten me how it was learned? according to which psychiatric research was that learned?

Getting a PDF copy seems difficult to find but if you find it somewhere search for code 302:

302 Sexual deviations
0 Homosexuality
1 Fetishism
2 Pedophilia
3 Transvestitism
4 Exhibitionism
5 Voyeurism
6 Sadism
7 Masochism
8 Other sexual deviation

Sexual deviation is categorized as sociopathic personality disturbance:

The only reason it was removed is because of gay activists demanding it to be removed:

It is a natural part of life
Yeah it is, just like the rest of sexual deviations.

I find lots of things disgusting that other people don't. I find eating jellyfish to be disgusting, but millions of Asians are fine with it. I don't demand they don't eat it in front of me. I just avoid it myself.

Are you sure? How about if we told the black community that books about them could not be included in the public library? Then why treat LGBTQ people differently? It is certainly abusive to be told that "books about your kind should not be seen by the public,"
I didn't say purpose of laws is to make us moral but rather that morality can't be excluded in decision making of laws.
Morality is excluded in all kinds of law-making. It pretty much never comes up when dealing with transportation infrastructure, for instance, or fiduciary laws for financial institutions.

But even where you think it ought to be included, be damned sure it is MORALITY you are talking about. You see, the law does not deem being gay to be immoral. So to include that consideration in laws would be nothing more than codifying some people's personal opinions. And that would make for very bad law, indeed.

Really? I don't think that you read that article. I am sure that you did not understand it.
