Hello all. Let me start off by saying that I really don't know where I stand...with regards to religion. I really want to believe, as personally I have a terminal illness and day to day is such a hardship. It would alleviate a lot knowing someone is in charge. However I have seen no evidence that God exists.

I guess this question is for believers. How can I get God in my life? How can I be a believer?

Thus far, with all the health setbacks I have received, God's not exactly doing a knock-up job at letting me know he exists.

If you want to be a believer, learn the many, many different ways you can believe. Classical dualistic monotheism isn't the only way.

For myself, I am a pluralistic, animist polytheist. I don't regard the Gods as explanations, but as interpretations. For example, the word Thunder. The 'd' was added in because it was sounded when people spoke the word that was previously spelled "Thunor". That is not only the name for the phenomenon in question, it's also the name of the God associated with it. That God is more commonly known today by his Old Norse name: Thor. He isn't the "God of Thunder". He IS Thunder.

There's also pantheism, which declares all the Universe as God. Panentheism is a similar theology, but that there's also stuff beyond the Universe that is also God. Tat Tvam Asi, as the Upanishads declared.

Hey brother, what I will say is reconcile inside your self that we all will die from age, sickness, injury, etc. and life is always a different variation of too short. We are not the first, and we won't be the last, to make the journey beyond.

Aside from trying to enjoy and cherish others and the little things in life that make it beautiful moment to moment - try to spend some time in a place with few distractions and forget all the worry or any regrets for that time, opening your mind and heart to any calling or feeling that might be a presence responding to you. Be genuine and drop any preconceptions. If you are going to get something I would bet that would be the time.

Arguments for this or that are more about gaining personal reassurance than discovering truths about reality. No other person than your own self can bring any meaningful, heartfelt certainty or contentment. Your experiences in the life you already have lived and that you have left are worth more than a million words if you look deeply.

Why must that someone in charge be God? It means you are not in charge of it yourself, which is far more important.

As for seeking aid for a challenge you can't handle yourself, you should seek aid from something that actually turns the situation. Reality wont suddenly get better just because you believe in God, it stays the same. God should be the conclusion from how reality seems to you, and it will be the same, grim reality it always has been.

God is already in your life, you're just not aware of it, and you can become aware of it by one simple action: searching.

In my opinion, God has a Will that is always fulfilled. When things are not going the way you expect them to, the only options you have are: to match your will to God's (go with the flow), or to get caught on the problem as time stretches you.

First let me say that God is everywhere. You only have to look at yourself and the world around you to see the marvellous handiwork of God the Creator.
Romans 1:20:- For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
As I have often said: ‘The whole world is dysfunctional, and everyone in it is dysfunctional, and we are all dysfunctional if different ways, and the end of the dysfunction is death.’ The whole world is dysfunctional because of sin, and because man wants his own way and is rebellious against a perfect Holy and Righteous God.
This fallen world is thankfully not all that there is, Christ has prepared another world which is perfect and where people do want to be with Him. Christ came and died for us, so that we don’t have to go to Hell (the spiritual rubbish dump). He died and rose again to show that He does indeed have power over life and death. What a marvellous Saviour, what a friend. I’ll leave you with the following guidelines. Don’t waste time, get yourself a Bible and read it for yourself. The very reason you are reading this is because the Spirit of God has lead you to read it.

Wonderfully put. There are so many different ways of viewing the Divine. Why limit yourself? If Abrahamic monotheism isn't working for you, try something else. Go out in Nature and connect with the sacred. Find it in your heart and ditch the books.

Dude, I'm just gonna tell you that if someone leaves a thread telling you how great their religion has been for them, they're trying to sell you something and they don't care about your spiritual health.

I say, look to a culture you like and admire, could be your native (could be from what you've studied in school), find a god, a few gods, or goddesses, etc. there and see where that leads you.

I am sorry to hear you have a terminal illness.

I advise you to seek God in meaningful practices. If you follow Christ, it may be useful to utilise certain images or music to get inspired.
I hope this leads you to certain experiences. I can't give you any arguments or proofs for God, or any other notion of the divine for that matter.

I'm sorry to hear you are ill. I'm just dropping in to offer a different opinion: don't look to God for support, look to the people in your life who love you and care for you. When you die and there is an afterlife (assuming there is one), you'll have all the time in the world to build a relationship with god, but you will keep your loved ones around you for just a little longer. Look for what makes you happy, whatever that may be.

I think you have made a start in asking. God is found within, not without.
Christ is the one who heals. As for other religions, as others will comment, I cannot speak for them. Stick with the God of your nation. If it is Christian, then that is the numen of the land.

You need someone to speak to I would have thought.

If you really wish to find him, you will find him. He is there, but you must take the step. He is found within.

I don't think it will be appropriate to advise you on how to find God, if God means anything to you then you'll find it; but I personally believe that your spirit will continue to live after death.
