Looks like Kennedy will suspend campaign, endorse Trump

It is expected that Kennedy will announce on Friday that he will suspend his campaign, and likely endorse Donald Trump. It seems there have been talks.

How do you think this will affect the election going forward? His support is somewhere between 5%-10%.

my thought is that though maybe 5-10 percent of likely voters might want to vote for Kennedy, the reality is he wasn't on ballots in every state, and has had very little campaign in those that he is on the ballot. In the end, his presence would have made little difference, and probably would have pulled more from Trump than the Dems...so it might give Trump a few more votes...

I love it. Republican donors were funding RFK Jr. to stay in the race. Then they discovered that he was actually draining more votes away from Trump than Harris. Now they are wondering how much money it will cost them to get his endorsement.

It is a bit worrisome. If all of them went for Trump it could be disastrous. But even that may not be enough The polls that are done with likely voters have Harris currently ahead more than that and Trump appears to be on a severe downward spiral. In his last rally he had no energy at all and sounded as if he was just going through the motions. I could probably find a video of at least parts of it.

If one only goes by the current raw numbers Harris is ahead in an average of all major polls 47 to 43.7%. That is only 3.3%

But I cannot see that many voters with the passion for Kennedy voting for Trump. Odds are that most will find another third party candidate.

Agreed, IF those followers actually followed the news instead of occasionally picking up a social media meme or link.

Oh no, that's bad luck for Trump, being endorsed by the second most nutty candidate, Trump being the most nutty. I think we won't see how any of the numbers settle until after the dems convention (which has been excellect so far) and then the debate. Trump is rattled and has become even more irrational, so we will see if he really screws himself in the debate. Harris and Walz are such good people and I can't see how Trump and Vance can offer any reason for undecided voters to choose them.

He doesn't have anything he's been able to get to stick to Harris like Hillary amd her emails. His plan was just attack Biden, but then the Dems changed gears detrimentally for Trump. Outside of his base he's got nothing but sludge.

The NYT notes the obvious:

In recent weeks, as his campaign’s money ran low, Mr. Kennedy’s support in national polls, once in the low double digits, plunged to about 5 percent. It was nowhere near sufficient to have a shot at victory, but still enough to potentially affect the results of the election, depending on his numbers in key swing states. [source]

I have no idea how that might play, but it's rather sad that the Electoral College too often forces us to ponder the relevance of the irrelevant.

Turns out Kennedy was bankrolled by a MAGA megadonor:

A Super Pac affiliated with Robert F Kennedy Jr, the anti-vaccine conspiracy theorist running for president as a Democrat, owes half its cash to a longtime Republican mega-donor and Trump backer, according to campaign finance reports filed on Monday

RFK Jr. always was nothing more than a shill for Donald Trump. His main job was supposed to be siphoning votes away from the Democratic candidate. Why else would a Trump donor prop up his campaign? So it should come as no surprise to anyone that he will be endorsing Trump.
