Macho men on the decline

No. To judge them as lazy would require a judgement that lacks those "incomplete facts" you mentioned.

In what way does it lack incomplete facts. Being lazy (meaning willfully inactive) is known to contribute significantly to weight gain. How then does the judgement that someone who is fat is lazy lack "incomplete facts"?

No, you just clearly don't get it. There's nothing else I can do, we can't teach decency, and I'm tired of going in circles. Do you really want to keep going 'round and 'round? Why? To prove some point? Fine, you win, I'm ugly, Neechy's pathetic, and I'm no better than you, but what you said doesn't reflect you at all, so I guess that says nothing about me then, but I'm sure there's something here that makes me different. There's just some people that can't be reasoned with, and I have better things to do than waste my breath in here. That goes for you too Thanda. Sure sure I'm a bigot or whatever, fine fine saying some men are jerks and muscle heads is the exact same thing as saying all fat women and their admirerers are disgusting and pathetic, happy? Feel better? I'm glad I could give you that sense of accomplishment.

No, it's more so to do with the fact that you've obviously exercised a clear double standard, something that Thanda is doing a much better job at making a case for than me.

And, sheesh, if a person's posts really do "go to the core of someone's personality," as you said, you seem to be a person who is very easily flustered.

This exchange is really just a little bit of banal entertainment for me TBH.

Stop being melodramatic - this is a debate, no one is fighting with you. You seem to be throwing your toys out just because your double standards have been exposed. I looked on that other thread and Timothy did not say all fat people and their admirers are disgusting and pathetic. He was against the movement that, instead of seeking to reduce obesity, was instead focused on getting society to accept it. Whether or not you agree with him the fact remains he did not assert what you think he did. But he clearly is also not particularly fond of fat people just as you don't seem to be particularly fond of high-testosterone macho men. No difference at all.

Because there is no way of knowing if someone is obese because they are lazy with just that appearance.

Of course, hence we are talking about incomplete facts. Just like there is no way of know what kind of person Timothy is just from a few posts here on RF. And yet you seem to have no problem making conclusions about his character based on precisely this limited information, that is, incomplete facts.

I see that some people in this thread need to learn how to science. Masculinity and testosterone are not the same things. If you're a "macho" man, that doesn't mean you have a higher level of testosterone than other men. There's a range of normal levels of androgens in males. I'm a transsexual man and have to get my levels checked periodically, so I know this. If you have a high level of testosterone (outside of the normal range), that's unhealthy and can cause a number of health issues. So I wouldn't be acting like it's a badge of honor.

Secondly, being "macho" is a socio-cultural thing. It's a behavior. Testosterone doesn't make you necessarily act one way or another. It can increase certain things, but we're not robots. Taking testosterone shots didn't make me a He-Man wannabe. It didn't turn me into a Tom of Finland drawing.

As for that study, I can't find many sources talking about it. CNN mentions it here, but they don't know what to make of it: Modern life rough on men

Whatever it means, it doesn't mean that masculinity is dying or that "macho" men are on the decline.

If macho men are on the decline its great. It's an image humanity can live without. I always remember the gorilla study when the two big macho gorillas were fighting over the females, and the little weaker guy was hiding behind the trees doing you know what.
I agree, its been males that caused all the wars, their just idiots, and i am embarrassed sometimes to be one, he he, i am a little girl most times lol.

Really, I see absolutely nothing wrong with the "macho man" on the decline (if that article had a shred of truth to it - asides from that a man's testosterone will decline over the course of nearly 20 years). If there is anyone more prone to explosive tempers, violence, and is very insecure in their masculinity, it is the macho man who is terrified of all things that even resemble feminine.
That seems to be an awful lot of equating what is culturally considered macho and testosterone. How about doing the same for estrogen and less savory culturally perceived "feminine qualities"? It's not a good idea. Many high testosterone people are very confident in their sexuality and don't have a problem with "anything resembling feminine".

No one is saying men should have testosterone levels above the normal range. There is not evidence that people in the 1950s had unhealthy levels of testosterone. It is simply noted in the article that they had more testosterone. Now some people are saying that is a good thing and others that it is a bad thing. I'm no scientist so I don't really know but I would like to have more research done in this area to see how this drop is affecting men and society.

I've never once equated being "macho" with having high amounts of testosterone (that is one of glaringly obvious flaws of the OP article). Afterall, I've known some women who are more "macho" than most men.
And, no, estrogen doesn't lead to these "less savory" feminine qualities.
