I was able to read a few lines before they cut me off.
Btw, the author doesn't know that "criterion" is the singular, not "criteria".
Oh, well....it's only the NYT.
I have the same problem with the NYT, and I refuse to 'subscribe.' No way in...wherever....

but most of the USA doesn't have the same opinion of the NYT as we do. ;)

It's useful.
And as with all sources, one must be aware of the bias.
Still......editors, proofread....please.

That would be nice.

But I'll bet it's deliberate. As in 'well, we aren't responsible for the content...it's an opinion piece...we didn't even edit it for grammar!"

Which of course might fly if they actually printed right/biased opinion pieces. But they don't...;)

It's only the English language. There are many cases were an original plural has been made into a singular. E.g.: visum doesn't exist in English, it's visa.

Didn't miss much of either insight or controversy.

It's a typical, dull opinion piece that unsuccessfully tries to be mildly humorous and satirical. Just saying they'd like someone more qualified than Pence to be leading the response to the virus. Then some other generic stuff critical of Trump and Republicans for the way they are dealing with and politicking with it.

Methinks Shmogie somewhat over-egged the pudding...

Oh, I know that language evolves.
But I'm a curmudgeon, & such things must be railed against!

I suppose that if Pence is a good manager, he could be a virus czar.
Sometimes being able to wield great power, with expert advice to
guide one can be an effective combination. But I merely speculate.

The virus has nothing to do with Trump
But if he handles it badly he will pay the price.
this will include any financial fall out.

His problem is that he will probably conflate Virus, china and Huawei. into some sort of Plot involving 5G.
