Mary Magdalene

What do you think about her?
Do you think she was the wife of Jesus?
I think we know very little about her.

She was most probably a woman of means. She was also probably important to the movement in the beginning, as we see her being mentioned at the resurrection, and we have later writings about her. So she probably had some importance to the early movement.

Personally, that is all I would say about her. There have been many works written about her, but a lot of them also put too much stock in the legends and myths. That and many succumb to conspiracy theories that have little evidence to support them.

Whether or not she was married to Jesus, I would say it was possible, but unlikely.

I believe Jesus was married. The wife of Jesus? Who knows. Maybe. I'd like to think so. :)

Was she one of the apostles?
Some conservative Chatolics say that Jesus had only man as apostles, therefore women cannot become ordained.

I don't believe Jesus married, though Mary Magdalene was a prostitute in her day, but found redemption from God and followed Jesus.

Was she really a prostitute?
According to Luke 8:2 and Mark 16:9, Jesus cleansed her of "seven demons," a concept usually associated in the New Testament with healing from illness, not forgiveness of sin

Actually there is no evidence she was a prostitute. The reason that she is believed to be so is because the Early Church thought it would be best to simplify the Gospel stories by combining various Mary's into one person.

The Bible, however; never states that Mary Magdalene was a prostitute.

It is possible that she was an apostle. Some have also called her an apostle to the apostles. Again though, since we have little information about her, it is difficult to really know for sure.

There's also the issue of how one defines apostle. Jesus picked out what were almost certainly twelve men as an inner core of followers. But not only does there seem to have been an "inner core" among the twelve, there may well have been (and there is some evidence for) other followers who were not among the twelve but who were important.

I like the tradition that Mary was "the apostle to the apostles."

I also like Mary being Jesus's wife and they have kids.

I always thought there was a reason for the "12". Like the 12 tribes, the 12 gates in Revelations, etc. Maybe Jesus had more, but the "12" were more significant.

The twelve is symbolic of the twelve tribes, yes.

Possibly, but there's really not any evidence. It's possible she was, or it's possible she was the Chief Apostle. The idea that she was existed in Christianity well into the 4th Century where Augustine of Hippo, who found it ludicrious that Christ would appoint a woman as the Chief Apostle, called her a whore.

IMHO, I believe that if Jesus were married, it would have been important enough for one of the Gospel writers to make mention of. I do believe that she was extremely important to His ministry, more important than many people give credit for.
