Why do people see different values in a god or a prophet or the spiritual teacher?

Is that maybe because you see or hear what you, want to see and hear, so what you hear and see becomes a reflection of you? and not the real truth in the teaching?

Because so far I've observed God doesn't speak in an audible voice. Our conceptions of God whether it be from ourselves, tradition, spiritual teachers, incarnations, or prophets these things and people help shape people's view of God.

In other words, unless there is one religion or one truth thereby making all other paths lies, it makes sense people use what they have to define the values they believe come from God.

I would also say having an empty mind in itself doesn't mean everyone will come to one truth.

Also, to be honest, I see a discrepancy in what you've been saying.

1. Is there one truth or does everyone have their own.

2. Is it wrong that people see what they want to see and why.

3. What is the real truth and who defines it.

4. If we all have an empty spiritual mind would we gain the same insight.

To all of your questions, the answer is: I can not give you a finished answer to any of them, because as a practitioner I am still in development, so I do not hold the full truth (if there is such a thing as full truth)

But what I do believe is that, before our ego has been fully dissolved, it is not possible to understand or know the full truth in any spiritual teaching. Since this is my personal belief, there might be other answers that fit you better than what I say

Yes it is offered we must empty ourselves before we can be filled with knowledge from a divine source.

The problem with the 'should' is only the extremely tiny minority can really have no egoic self which would allow a truly open mind.

My teachers have said to not discuss lessons with anyone else for that reason. It avoid adding confusion and creating discord.

Of course if people are on a shared project, questions arise and need to be dealt with but that's another matter.

Questions that arise when we study with others from the same faith, can be discussed freely and in respect for each others and of the truth, Discussion about certain topics with people of multiple beliefs or nonbeliefs can lead to a lot of confusion, that is true too

Who even has the 'real' truth to start with? Assuming there is one in the first place.

Even the criteria in selecting a teacher involves your own wants and views.

In sufism, until a practitioner stop listening with their ego, they can not gain or understand the most pure truth.
Again, I can not and will not speak of other beliefs and how they find truth. Because I do not know.
I do not think sufism is the only way to the truth.

Your OP question indirectly says there is one truth and it asks why people don't realize that one truth rather than seeing things how they want to see it (like talking for god rather than listening to him). The real truth you believe in is in Sufism. So, from that logic, people are not believing in the real truth (sufism) but just hearing and believing what They want to believe.

How you phrased the question by default makes it seem like others are seeing what they want to see and hear and why don't they know the real truth or real teachings.

I'm just challenging you to think about this a bit... if Sufism is the real teachings to you and people are seeing what they want to see and hear (as in your OP) then it would make sense for them to drop their teachings and follow the real truth of Sufism.
