Men Should Not Hit Women?

Indeed, IMHO it's the chauvinism inherent in most societies that this "real men don't hit women" idea comes from.

I remember in the childhood days that I always used to get in conflict with my elder sister. she start a fight, amm I respond back and then she end up crying:(. No matter how it started, I was always the one who was to be blamed and scolded. :cover:

Anyway, I agree with this,

I guess it comes down to using the minimal amount of force to get the job done.

In a society where both sexes are equal it is entirely acceptable to hit a women back.

AHA, I disagree. I think this will be a misuse of equality with men.

Some very good points here.

Two problems here.
1) When a person is in combat, they loose fine motor control, and typically experience tunnel vision. A lot of the techniques which use pressure point manipulation in martial arts (e.g. chin na techniques, pressure point strikes in kenpo, atemi-waza in jujitsu, ninpo, etc, and so forth) require the kind of coordination, timing, and accuracy that usually isn't possible under duress. There is a reason why military and paramilitary forces train to fight in ways that mimic natural movements which don't require fine motor control.
2) The kind of techniques which work in a dojo or in sparring often don't work against someone flowing with adrenaline. You can be shot or stabbed and not even realize it. The pressure point strikes which hurt so much in practice might not even be felt.

I have very minimal martial arts training. I've done karate, judo and aikido and never got past white belt in any of them. You won't be surprised from my posts in this thread that i liked aikido best. Interestingly enough i incorporate some of the stuff i've learnt from fire spinning into my fighting style.

Your points here make sense in a full fledged fight, however in a domestic situation things aren't as intense.

Again, it's all a question of what's going on. I've had my nose broken and didn't realize it until later. Didn't affect me at all. I've also been accidently hit in the nose training. Usually my eyes will water up and I'll have to stop for a minute because it stuns me and hurts like hell. Adrenaline makes all the difference.
See the above comment.

Thankyou for a martial arts spin on the subject.

In the case which i mentioned of the woman doing this because she thinks i'm not gonna hit back, my control over my anger will be almost non-existent. Because the way i see it, its pretty close to the idea of a man abusing a woman. The reason he does this so non reluctantly is because he thinks there are no consequences. He is not afraid of her, and he's pretty sure he is stronger.

Learning to control your anger is ideal for this situation.

It allows clarity of thought which will not only stop you from instantly beating the crap out of your attacker but will also allow you to take actions that will minimise the amount of pain/damage that you will have to inflict on a person to get them to stop. You learn to act instead instead of react.

ROFLMAO i had a little sister who would do the same thing. But one day mum was watching and caught her in the lie. I copped it far less often after that.

Only if i'm using the equality argument as an excuse to hit women. Which i am not.

I point it out because this is one of the examples of society still expecting preferential treatment for women whilst trying to enforce gender equality.
