Mentally ill OR radicalized ?

Martin

Spam, wonderful spam (bloody vikings!)
Perhaps poverty or class differences? That seems to be the root cause of a lot of crime.

That could well be a factor, along with education.
I suspect there are actually a number of risk factors. But I don't see a rational basis for excluding religious or political fanaticism, or for excluding mental illness and abnormal personalities.

Well, spluh!
Twas a novel view to consider.
Don't be such a neurotypical, toots!
The neurotypicals are the ones overwhelmingly believing pop-psychology rubbish that attaches mental illness to terrorism/extremism despite the fact the research does not support that claim, and despite the fact the sources cited here have not been supporting the claims of mental illness leading to such radical ends.
This has been studied from multiple angles and disciplines. Even in law enforcement where the mentally ill are turned into shooting targets and punching bags to abuse this idea of a strong link between mental illness and terrorism just isn't there.
To use another example, it's like guys who endlessly debate over whether longer or shorter arms are better for bench pressing, when the actual science that has actual research behind it does not list arm length as a primary contributing factor. But still the myth persists. 12 Step programs are generally ineffective, but the myth of them working well lives on. We use far more than 10% of our brain, but the myth of only using 10% lives on. Running on its own isn't bad for your knees according to the research and medical data, but the myth that running destroys your knees lives on. Just as the myths of that correlate mental illness to violence. Evidence does not support the claim and to the contrary shows the mentally ill are less likely to be violent. But, as this thread well demonstrates, the myth lives on and many are strongly opposed to letting go of this fallacy and are defending it.

But yet your posts here have been lining up with the pop psychology rubbish, and going to some weird criticism that reminds me of some SJW I once encountered who gave a similar criticism (of a different subject) that was very broad and generalized and not actually addressing any studies themselves. Lots of "it could have been this" and "it has been this in the past."
Blood letting and lobotomies being medically accepted practices in the past doesn't mean they weighed into my decision on whether or not to get the covid vaccine.

Did stomach ulcers going from being caused by stress to being caused by bacteria weight in your decision to get the covid vaccine?
And you aren't providing evidence, you are speculating things and looking at one field. I've been bringing up multiple fields of study.

Yes. I'm old enough I was diagnosed with an ulcer back when it was believed stress caused them. I learned in college it was discovered that bacteria causes those.
Same thing when homosexuality was removed from the DSM.
The question still stands of did you consider past medical blunders and errors when deciding to get the covid vaccine?

I cited several sources in this thread.
I have been objecting to this mythical correlation between mental illness and radicalism since the first page.
I've not seen you even provide the clinical definition (not layman's because this is the root of "its just a theory" when evolution is challenged) of a mental illness.

I.consider.everything.relevant,including.vaccine.histories.
Do.you.say.that.vaccines.have.had.historical.problems
rising.to.the.level.of.Covid's.deleterious.effects?
Such.a.claim.would.require.justification.

Perhaps.there's.miscommunication.
I.don't.claim.correlation.between.the.two.
Instead.I.say.that.such.radicalization.is.mental.illness.
I.gave.criteria.that.satisfied.the.label.

even.addressed.my.criteria.

I'm not making any claims. I simply asking a question that follows the same logic as challenging the research findings of extremism and mental illness based on past mistakes and errors, such as homosexuality once being considered a disorder. With that one, when the question was formally asked it was am astounding and near unanimous decision it's not and needs removed from the DSM.
So, considering the past errors and mistakes of physical health, did you consider there may be an issue with covid vaccines based on the fact medicine has (and still do) accepted things that are wrong?

No, you haven't satisfied the criteria of a mental illness. I promise. And it's not arguing dictionary definition versus encyclopedia definition. It really is more like a layman's use of the word theory and how the word is properly used, allowing Creationists to come along and claim "it's just a theory."
A proper, clinical description of mental illness that isn't based on an armchair, layman's, pop psychology usage of it is something you haven't done.

I've.nothing.new.to.add.
You.disagree.with.something.similar.to.what.I.posted.
I.get.that.
And I'm asking if past medical blunders were considered in your decision to get the covid vaccine.
It didn't even cross my mind. My own history with side effects, but a history of doctors downplaying the risks of smoking and even claiming it's good for you was something I didn't think about.

That's not really answering it, and I asked in regards to past medical errors in general, not specifically vaccine history.
