The neurotypicals are the ones overwhelmingly believing pop-psychology rubbish that attaches mental illness to terrorism/extremism despite the fact the research does not support that claim, and despite the fact the sources cited here have not been supporting the claims of mental illness leading to such radical ends.
This has been studied from multiple angles and disciplines. Even in law enforcement where the mentally ill are turned into shooting targets and punching bags to abuse this idea of a strong link between mental illness and terrorism just isn't there.
To use another example, it's like guys who endlessly debate over whether longer or shorter arms are better for bench pressing, when the actual science that has actual research behind it does not list arm length as a primary contributing factor. But still the myth persists. 12 Step programs are generally ineffective, but the myth of them working well lives on. We use far more than 10% of our brain, but the myth of only using 10% lives on. Running on its own isn't bad for your knees according to the research and medical data, but the myth that running destroys your knees lives on. Just as the myths of that correlate mental illness to violence. Evidence does not support the claim and to the contrary shows the mentally ill are less likely to be violent. But, as this thread well demonstrates, the myth lives on and many are strongly opposed to letting go of this fallacy and are defending it.
