Yes, and psychology has gained additional fresh insights since homosexuality not being an illness was fresh insight. Much like how medicine gains new insights every now and then.
It seems silly to me to challenge a field based on an error that was amended decades ago. We've moved on far along enough since then we've had three editions of the DSM without.
Criminology, psychology, sociology, anthropology, and numerous crime agencies around the world have and are studying terrorism. If none of them are focusing on mental health as a part of extremism there is no reason to believe it plays a major role in the process of radicalization. Sure, at one point in time the FBI was pretty bad with criminal profiling. But they've gotten better and aren't tied to the past.

It might not be though. If for example somebody believes they will become a martyr and end up in heaven with free access to virgins and such - would you say that's a "solid" understanding of reality?
There's a difference between false beliefs and losing a sense of reality. Or would believing in Santa Claus make children insane?
