Most Christian fundamentalists will talk about miracles, healing and supernatural events, I did when I was in that camp.

3 months ago my life partner Chris was diagnosed with breast cancer, its in her family 7 of them have died of it in the past 40 years, so you can imagine the fear the came upon us all. Tests were done biopsy, more tests, 100% confirmed. A date was given for surgery 19th March. at the beginning of March she went to a healing meeting in town where several people gathered around her and prayed, I was there, nothing visible happened. She felt all along that she wouldn't need surgery. She decided to go back to the doctor for more test. 4 Doctors and a surgeon looked at the latest tests, NOTHING. all gone. She went back 5 days later for more tests, still nothing.

How we dont don't know all we know is it appears that something amazing has happened.
I'm certainly glad she's better....hope she stays well....but I would not attribute it to an intervention by God. I mean, so many others are suffering and dying!

Our bodies are amazing, in how they can heal themselves, even with past histories of relatives diagnosed with the same.

Wish you both the best.

I have no doubt that the unexplained can happen and that includes spontaneous healing. The world "miracle" is something else.

To me life itself is a miracle. A baby's laugh is a miracle. Lovers find each other to be miracles. I think we tend to ignore "ordinary miracles".

Spontaneous healing has been studied pretty regularly by Western medicine. One mechanism seems to be that the patients immune system is activated and removes the cancer. Immunity over inability: The spontaneous regression of cancer is one interesting article.

So I can easily see how someone with cancer reacts positively to prayer with an activated immune system.

I'm here wearing a "science" hat and applying Occam's razor to indicate that divine intervention is not required to explain "spontaneous remission". I'm not however asserting that is impossible just that it's not a necessary explanation.

Why should I believe that some deity answered your prayers to heal your loved one but won't answer the prayers of others to heal theirs when they end up dying of a disease?

Because of many reasons. A deity can judge some people more loyal than others. Also, a deity knows if some people are prepared for a miracle or they'll go running to the shrink in panic, not knowing how to deal with a non-physical intervention in their lives. How would you react if you would suddenly meet Jesus or Krishna, etc. here in the physical plane? Imagine the guy just descends from a flying saucer and tells you he wants to talk to you and have some beers. Some people would be delighted for such a vision, but others would die of a heart attack on the spot! Others would react with distrust, fearing it's a trick from a shapeshifting alien pirate that just wants to kindnap them to get some tissue samples. They would receive Jesus with a shotgun!

And for those who talked about a natural healing because of the reactivation of the immune system... well, cancer doesn't get healed so quickly.

Great story. I am a believer in healing with supernatural intervention. I have heard more than enough convincing stories for me. Also healing sources and energies even make sense in my spiritualist worldview.

I don't think it is related to any one religion or any religion at all. The major healings come for reasons we will never fully understand from our physical-only perspective.

Great to hear, I hope you both remain well and strong.

Healing can be by both Physical and by Martial Means. A combination will be the way in the future.

Miracle or no miracle I am happy for you and her

I agree with this too :) I was a Christian for a while and developed a chronic illness, I was prayed and prayed for and nothing happened. I've lived with this for years, but now we finally have a diagnosis and correct treatment which is working. My faith in miracles drastically decreased (and my philosophy became more deistic), but inexplicable things can happen, for whatever reason, and it did for your partner and that's amazing. Maybe it is just luck but make sure to appreciate it fully. You have a second chance that many would die for.

Fair enough, but I do................

That in all the chaos of the Universe, and time, and space, that I am here writing to you, and that I can go back to bed in a short while and cuddle up to my Missus............ that is my miracle. :)

But talking about miracles is useless, because they have no value to anybody but only the person who experiences them. I just don't know how I have come through 70 years of life and survived until now...... so many dreadful scrapes etc......

I know that I will get ill and die one day, or meet with a crashing aircraft, or whatever, but I just hope that I can accept my end remembering that it was a miracle that I got so much happiness out of life.

I hope that you too do get happiness............ ?

I’m just glad to see you’re still around old badger. I miss your challenging questions but I guess I miss you too. Keep well and I’m happy you’re happy.

I haven’t had any miracles ever happen to me. Never even won in a contest or $5 in the lottery.

But I did find the Holy Grail and have seen God and as well it will be our 40th wedding anniversary in October.

Also I’m surrounded by angels, truly noble and beautiful people.

And on top of that I’m the happiest person in the world. I have certitude, contentment and inner peace and no worries or problems. Life is beautiful and all humanity I consider to be my family.

My only sorrow is I can’t upload my happiness, contentment and inner peace to others through some USB port so I have to keep it to myself.

I don’t know though if I’m ‘saved’ or going to hell or heaven, only I have tried to behave myself and hope that’s enough but any one of you could be looking down at me in the next world saying ‘bad boy’.

The randomness of such "miracles," that is, unexplained recoveries of this kind - that probably could be explained as freak accidents of nature without supernatural causes, does not correspond to whether or not those to whom they do or do not occur deserve it. To ascribe such accidents of chance and nature to divine intervention has a dark side, that God choose who would get a miracle; why did not the most deserving victims get divine intervention, for instance, Ann Frank, while many, who by overwhelming probability were less deserving and less in need of help did. It implies that God chose to selective apply divine intervention to exclude and therefore participate in the Nazis murdering Ann Frank. This implication of an unjust god rather than one who cannot intervene without destroying our free will and thereby destroying some purpose of our lives to reveal our true selves through what we do with our free will is too blasphemous to me and I am an agnostic.

1 in 5 breast cancers vanish spontaneously. Today with regular checkups, breast cancers are being far earlier, at stages when spontaneous remission caused by body's own immune system are quite common.

I do stuff
There was a time my ex didn't burn dinner. It must have been a act of God. There is no way she could have done this on her own.

Miracles happen and I am happy for you and yours. Little ones happen every day we just are to blind to see them. Why they happen to one and not another is in Gods hand and beyond my understanding. Why one person goes into remission from cancer and another does not again is a mystery. After surgery and chemo my wife is in remission from stage 3 ovarian right now. Now she is dealing with her MS that she has had for 24 years. Her faith has never wavered. Through all of her "problems" she has been an amazing example of a faithful christian and a rock to everyone around her. While it may leave us with many questions we have to realize we are only here for a short time. What comes later is so much better.

Excellent , I have seen many healings and heard of many many more !
The fact that some people don’t just rejoice with you indicates that something else is going on in their lives !!
Some people will fight God all the way to their death , pride is a terrible failing , we all have it , but it’s how we deal with it that counts .
Blessings in abundance my friend

I understand, but whilst your being skeptical Chris is cancer free, dont ask me to explain.I dont know. What I do know is that its highly probable that things can happen in this world that we dont understand. If you did you'd be GOD

Quite right, things happen we do not understand. So leave it at that. Don’t try and say “God did it” when you have no understanding of it by your own admission.
When is something a miracle....when it is unusual? When it is very rare? When it is impossible without altering the physical laws of the universe as we understand them? Cancer remission occurs naturally, even though it is relatively rare in the case of breast cancer.

That's truly wonderful to hear. I wish that same god would help all the children that will die this week at the Hasbro Children's Hospital...

If god exists and can perform miracles why is it so choosy about to whom it hands them out? It will let a child die, but supposedly cure an adult in the last stages of their life, for instance.

I think unexpected cures happen, but are nothing to do with a god.
