Missouri station offering Russian state radio to listeners | AP News

So, my questions to the RF peanut gallery are as follows:

1. Is it treason for a radio station owner to broadcast news and information from foreign sources?

2. Is it treason for a radio station owner to broadcast news and information from a foreign country deemed "unfriendly" but not officially at war with? (This would not just apply to Russia, but also China, North Korea, Myanmar, Iran, or any number of other possible countries.)

3. Is it treason for a radio station owner to broadcast news and information from a foreign country against which the U.S. has officially declared war? (Keep in mind the last time Congress actually officially declared war was during WW2.)

4. Does this radio station broadcasting Russian propaganda present a clear and present danger to the American people? (If yes, please explain.)

5. Any other thoughts?
I find it interesting to hear what folks from around the world hear on the radio.
At least maybe I can understand how they are seeing events from their POV.

Better IMO to be exposed to all ideas, even those you may disagree with then let some government entity decide who's ideas you get to listen to.

Of course not.
But some on the left have.
And some blame the "right" for one guy with a radio station.
That's wrong.
And I haven't. I don't care what others are doing. I'm just saying what Russian state media has to say is best flushed down a toilet and this wanker is not defending free speech.

I'd rather hear it.
It's interesting....fascinating.

She was real and became a bit of a celebrity with American troops.

Hanoi Hannah - Wikipedia

Interesting. According to the Wiki article, her father was a capitalist and she was raised in a life of privilege.

This part of the article did make some sense, though:

It has been claimed that US forces in Vietnam distrusted the U.S. Armed Forces Radio bulletins, and listened to Ngọ's bulletins for information from the U.S.[10] According to war correspondent Don North:

By zapping the truth through an ostrich-like policy of censorship, deletions, and exaggerations U.S. Armed Forces Radio lost the trust of many GIs when they were most isolated and vulnerable to enemy propaganda. It wasn't that Hanoi Hannah always told the truth - she didn't. But she was most effective when she did tell the truth and US Armed Forces Radio was fudging it.[9]

It's just yet another confirmation that lies and the lack of transparency of our own government ends up biting them in the backside yet again.

Exactly!

That's been a useful word today.
I typically avoid reading subversive books.
But I did read & like Letters From Earth.
Subversive books are great to read. Knowing your enemy is one of the best ways to combat them.
But, ultimately, at the end of the day it is Russian propaganda and this wanker isn't furthering free speech where it is silenced.

If a private entity wants to ban Russian state propaganda, I'm all for their right to do so and think that is the responsible thing to do in a lot of cases.

However, I'm against the state/government banning a radio broadcast if it meets all laws and regulations of its host state/country (e.g., it doesn't incite violence, breaking the law, etc.). You don't want your state or government to have the power to decide what is or isn't truth or bannable news. Down that road lies the hell of dictatorship.
