Speaking of cults (Scientology is seen by many to be a cult) has anyone done a thread on whether or not Islam qualifies as a cult? Personally I'm undecided on the matter.
Ah, but Scientology is a religion for tax purposes at least. :)

Here is another question... what is the chemical property that keeps salt and fresh water mixing?
The only difference between salt water and fresh water is that there is more dissolved salt ions in between the water molecules.

It isn't a property of the water itself... water molecules are all identical. Truth be told even fresh water has salt in it... very low concentrations of salt, but the ions are there none the less.

Water molecules never change form... not from fresh to salty... liquid to ice to gas... the molecules themselves remain the same.

Hello Alla! following link:
QUERIES ON ISLAM

If cult is implied a way of life, an attitude, an ides etc then yes Islam is a cult. But when cult is used as a small group of people who have extreme religious beliefs and who are not part of any established religion then Islam is not qualified as cult in that context.

I use the term ‘cult’ to refer to groups (not necessarily theological in nature) that exert undue influence of its adherents/victims to the point of causing serious financial, mental and societal harm.

Thank you for the link Zindagee. However the definition provided easily supports Islam as a non cult. We need a more comprehensive definition. I'll start a new thread on the subject.

This definition was the original meaning of the cult, with neutral connotation.

This is a modern definition, with negative connotations, probably originated in the last century (20th century).
