It was on fire when I laid down on it.
We saw Surrogates this past week. It was typical Bruce Willis and pretty good for that genre. I mean, it's not like you'll leave the theater any smarter than when you went in there, but it was decent entertainment.

"Surrogates" was rather ordinary, I thought. For those that don't know, society now has access to robots that look identical to humans, and can be controlled by thought alone, and everyone lives their lives through these robots. It is a good idea, but executed poorly - lots of action takes precedence over any social examination of the central idea, apart from the central idea, is merely a paint-by-numbers SF conspiracy movie, and the ending is extremely predictable.

Do yourself a favor and try to rent Painted Lady starring Helen Mirren. It is brilliant from almost any angle you might like to consider... and you will also learn something in the process. It is a remarkable movie, written for a remarkable actress.

I watched The Thing recently for the first time on the big screen and thought it was outstanding. Currently going through the Back to the future and Terminator films with my girlfriend at the minute. All classics.(Except T3 of course)

Helen Mirren is one of my favorites! I am going to order that from NetFlix right now. Thanks for the recommendation!

So, do you like independent and foreign films? If so, what are some of your favorites? We can compare lists and see if we have similar tastes, and then we can clue each other in on what's great.

I love me some NetFlix. I have two movies waiting for me downstairs - "Doubt," with Meryl Streep, and some movie about insomnia called the Machinist - looked good.

Very good German films I've seen recently:

Those Germans have been on a great movie tear for the past decade or so.

Yesterday I watched:

Edward Scissorhands
Halloween VI
Dawn of the Dead
Hannibal

It was a very busy day... I couldn't think of a costume so I just watched TV all day. My grandmas always give me candy anyway, so I didn't really need to trick or treat to get it. Plus, my little sister gives to me anything with caramel in it, because she doesn't like caramel for some reason...??
