Magic Man

Reaper of Conversation
I just watched "Good Luck, Chuck". I didn't expect much, but it was actually pretty darn good. I watched the unedited version, and a couple of the things I really liked were, I'm sure, only part of that. One of the better comedies I've seen over the last few years.

Kal-El's Mama
I saw a movie from my country called X44. It was like watching 007 James Bond the comedy version. As all James Bond movies, it had hot women. But these are hot Filipinas!

GLASS BOTTOM BOAT
DVD/ Color/ 110 Mins./ UR/ 1966
Engineer Bruce Templeton (Rod Taylor) makes quite a catch when he reels in public-relations worker and part-time mermaid Jennifer Nelson (Doris Day). Smitten with the costumed cutie, Bruce commissions Jennifer to write his biography. But through a series of misunderstandings, he comes to believe she's a Russian spy intent on stealing scientific secrets. A comic pleasure cruise, this lighthearted romance also features some great musical numbers.

ZODIAC
DVD/ Color/ 158 Mins./ R/ 2007
In the 1960s and '70s, a cryptic killer clad in an executioner's hood stalked the streets of San Francisco and left clues about his crimes in the newspaper. In director David Fincher's chilling recount of the murders, Oscar nominee Jake Gyllenhaal -- flanked by an impressive ensemble cast that includes Robert Downey Jr. and Chloe Sevigny -- stars as reporter Robert Graysmith, the man who went on to write the best-selling true crime book Zodiac.

Kal-El's Mama
I watched this movie at work. I will be watching the extras and also the second disc that came with it to see what else they are going to talk about. It was a good film even though I have seen it before but not sure where.

A psychological study of Charles Foster Kane, a powerful newspaper tycoon whose idealism was corrupted as he rose to enourmous wealth and power. The story unfolds as a mystery: when Mr. Kane dies uttering cryptic last words, a magazine reporter interviews the tycoon's friends in an effort to uncover the significance of the word "Rosebud."

Done here.
The last movie I saw was some movie about angst-ridden gay guys. It just went off. I couldn't even tell you any of the characters' names; it was so boring I just couldn't pay attention to it. I don't like movies about people who sit around and whine about their feelings. I especially don't like movies about gay guys who sit around and whine about their feelings.

How To Draw A Bunny
DVD/ Color/90 Mins./ UR/ 2002
The cartoon rabbit that was artist Ray Johnson's signature inspired the title for this documentary about the man, whose memorable life in the arts was often so creative that it befuddled even his closest friends. Johnson, once referred to as the "the most famous unknown artist in America," took individuality to a new level with his art that inventively infused pop-culture images, collages and even rubber stamps.

Did you ask Ralph if it was alright to borrow and watch this?

A penguino recommendation:

City Of God
DVD/ Color/ 130 Mins./ R/ 2002
Busca-Pe (Alexandre Rodrigues) lives in Cidade de Deus (City of God), a housing project reputed to be one of the most dangerous parts of otherwise magical Rio de Janeiro. One Day At A Time: Season 1(2 disc series)
In this groundbreaking 1970s sitcom, recent divorcee Ann Romano (Bonnie Franklin) and her teenage daughters Julie (Mackenzie Phillips) and Barbara (Valerie Bertinelli) move to Indianapolis to start a new life. They pull together as they deal with Ann's budding career and the girls' adolescent problems. Produced by Norman Lear, the series tackles controversial topics such as teen sex, suicide and sexual discrimination. Pat Harrington Jr. co-stars.

Okay, I admit it, I had a thing for the pixie-ish Bonnie Franklin.

For those that remember the theme song and wanted to sing along, just follow the bouncy smiley.

This is it. This is it.
This is life, the one you get
So go and have a ball.

This is it. This is it
Straight ahead and rest assured
You can’t be sure at all.

So while you’re here enjoy the view
Keep on doing what you do
So hold on tight we'll muddle through
One day at a time, One day at a time.

So up on your feet. Up on your feet
Somewhere there’s music playing.
Don’t you worry none
We’ll just take it like it comes.

One day at a time, one day at a time.
One day at a time, one day at a time.
One day at a time, one day at a time.
One day at a time, one day at a time.

I really, really want to see this, being a Brazil-lover. But I can't seem to find it in video rental places....

I just watched Amazing Grace, about the British slave abolitionist William Wilberforce. It was excellent. Made me cry.
