I wasn't expecting to like it, but a friend dragged me to it and I'm really glad she did. Adorable.

TRUE GRIT
DVD/ Color/ 127 Mins./ G/ 1969
John Wayne landed one of his last great screen roles as crusty lawman Reuben J. "Rooster" Cogburn, who reluctantly helps teenager Mattie Ross (Kim Darby) pursue her father's killer. True Grit is more a character study than many of Wayne's formulaic Westerns. The rousing final showdown between Wayne and the villains adds to the Duke's long list of outstanding movie moments.

This is not a Rated G movie.

Done here.
Outing Riley.

From 2004, but I'm rarely in a hurry about movies.

Here's part of a review (lifted from IMDB):
Bobby Riley (Pete Jones) is an Irish Catholic closeted gay man living in Chicago with his partner Andy (Michael McDonald). Bobby is being pressured by Andy and by his informed sister Maggie (Julie Pearl) to come out to his family - a good Irish Catholic family of four brothers, a sister, and a dying father (Bob Riley). His facade with his brothers is a mime of voyeurism of 'chicks' and a beer drinking butch life. Each family member has a secret: Maggie can't hold a relationship and is unable to keep secrets; Connor (Stoney Westmoreland) is addicted to internet porn; Jack (Dev Kennedy) is a priest who has problems with the conflicts the church places on his own beliefs; Luke (the always outstanding Nathan Fillion) is a pothead. Once Maggie decides she must out Bobby, the brothers are conflicted: homophobia raises its ugly head despite the bonds of close family ties. How the family comes to grips with Bobby's being gay, individually and as a family, is the crux of the tale.
This is sweet, funny movie. I often dislike "gay" movies, but this is one I'll be showing at movie night one night soon.

This weekend I had a holiday, so I watched No Country for Old Men (loved it), Enchanted (very cute), No Reservations (Eh. Romantic comedy) and I Am Legend (heartwrenching).

John Waters: The Filthy World
DVD/ Color/ 86 Mins./ NR/ 2006
Philosopher of filth and reigning king of bad taste, John Waters presents an outstanding live one-man show that celebrates his origins of trash with his signature brand of irreverent humor. Filmed live in New York, this devilishly delectable monologue focuses on Waters's early introductions to the grotesque that influenced the groundbreaking filmmaker and author, continually magnifying his twisted contributions of creativity.

One of the most interesting and entertaining men I have ever had the privilege of experiencing.
