It is because most of the European and north American countries have a high regard for animals and have passed strict laws about their abuse, that we are so upset by this report from Spain. There are countries in the west and East that have no such regard and no such laws, as your disgusting illustration showed. Korea butchers and eats dogs.

We do not show pictures, because we find the showing of torture and killing of animals sick and disgusting.

We would have been equally appalled had we heard of other religions doing this.

Here's how I see things. Islam does not, and never has, condoned the destruction of animals. The Hadith ordering the killing of black dogs is a weak one, and possibly related to rabid dogs of that time. We can only speculate now.

As with anything else, we have those who take things out of context, to the extreme, etc. and those who unfortunately act on it. Perhaps there are a few Muslims in Spain who are ordering the killing of dogs. If true, I have no excuse for them, as they have clearly deluded the message sent to them through the Qur'an. If any Hadith goes against the spirit of the Qur'an, then it is to be disregarded. We Muslims shouldn't deny there are some out there doing such horrible things. We even have some Muslims who don't allow the word "pig" to be said out loud. Again, another example of things being taken to an extreme by a minority. Unfortunately, the minority seems to be the loudest at times.

Here's the difference: If some Muslims believe the dog's saliva is dirty, and therefore don't want them inside their homes, then there's no harm in that. LEt them believe what they want; there is no law saying they need to have a dog, so leave it.

If some Muslims are indeed intending on harming any animal, they need to be stopped.

I know it was quoted before, but for emphasis:

While a man was walking he felt thirsty and went down a well, and drank water from it. On coming out of it, he saw a dog panting and eating mud because of excessive thirst. The man said, "This (dog) is suffering from the same problem as that of mine." So, he (went down the well), filled his shoe with water, caught hold of it with his teeth and climbed up and watered the dog. Allah thanked him for his (good) deed and forgave him.'' The people asked "O Allah's Apostle! Is there a reward for us in serving (the) animals?'' He replied: "Yes, there is a reward for serving any animate (living being).''
