I'm not saying you're wrong but what evidence do you have that humans were around long before Prophet Adam?
Well to begin we should first find out if the Quran calls Adam (as) the first man.
Here is a definitive answer in the Quran that makes it clear Adam (as) could not possibly have been the first man: Speaking about Adam (as) the Holy Quran says, [2:31] And when thy Lord said to the angels: I am about to place a vicegerent in the earth,.
All we need to look at in this word is the word Khalifa, which is translated as vicegerent. In every fair sense Khalifa means successor, so when Adam (as) was being created as the first man then how could he possibly be a Khalifa to? Who was he to lead and who was he to succeed when nobody else existed. No matter how one tries to bend this verse it will always break, as you cannot translate Khalifa to anything but successor.
