Ok, but I have found a lot of evidence for my faith, otherwise I would not be a Christian.Sunstone said:Yes, it's too narrow minded. Moreover, it's not supported by any evidence.
Yes, I tend to just speak what I believe to be the truth, in the Bible it is called the 'foolishness of preaching'. I just preach Christ crucified as Paul did, I tell the good news, and leave it up to the Holy Spirit to do the rest.Fluffy said:It is largely not your message. I only have a problem with anothers message if they are factually incorrect. It is the method of your delivery that is hard to accept.
Fair enough but this goes against the basic principles of persuasion and rhetoric. What is the point of trying to convince somebody of something if you do not care if your delivery is a totally inefficent way of doing so?Yes, I tend to just speak what I believe to be the truth, in the Bible it is called the 'foolishness of preaching'. Yeah, I hear where you are coming from, although I work hard at what we call 'appologetics', trying to persuade people with information, history, archeology, logic, etc., and am convinced in the 'logical way', myself, as that is how I had to be convinced myself after I was older and had questions and doubts like anyone else who really wants to examine their beliefs. But when I was a child of eight, and first heard the gospel, something struck me very deep that this was true, and I needed Jesus as my Saviour. I have seen many people, when presented with the simple message of the gospel fall under what I call the conviction of the Holy Spirit and begin to weep and accept Christ as their Saviour. There is just something about God's presence and the message that seems to do that to folks, I have felt it myself, maybe reading the Bible, or hearing a message or reading a book, and suddenly I felt that that particular word was just what I needed at that time, and would weep at the realization that God cared for me and was able to speak to me in that way. As much as I am against the 'I experienced it so it must be true' christian existentialism deal, the word of God is sharper than any two-edged sword dividing even to the bone and marrow, as Hebrews refers to, it can cut straight to the heart of one who is honest and truly searching for God. I am not much of an 'explainer' or 'reasoner' very much of the time, there are folk better at that than me, I guess its like when a close friend comes and tells you something about you, good or bad, that you kind of felt all along, but they just said it and confirmed what was deep down, but you just hadn't really brought it into focus or realization. And its like, yeah, wow, of course! I KNEW that, I just needed someone to tell me. That is the best I can explain for now. Ok, I am rambling so, better go. Later!Fluffy said:Fair enough but this goes against the basic principles of persuasion and rhetoric.
