My disdain toward cinema is becoming unbearable

I am just venting but I am curious toward the attitude of everybody else. Being a film snob I hope I am not being unfair to good films but I also feel that I would know a good film when I see it.

For me a film is good if its entertaining, it doesn't have to be perfect or thought provoking just entertaining and I'm guessing many people are like me.

Some good one's I just recently saw.
Jumanji, Jack Black played an incredible teenage girl, even when he was in the background flipping his hair and doing girly things and the rock did a good rock

The Greastest Showman a fun musical event, no it was not accurate and really had a weak story but the music and dance was great.

Black panther Action, Political statement, Social Statement, Strong women, Afro future environment, different in a good way from all other Marvel movies but still not Oscar worthy.

All of them entertained me and was worthy of my money, none of them will win an Oscar and I'm fine with that.

Not all of us are entertained the same way, I would spend more time in a Amusement park or state fair and there all very similar then a museum or Art exhibit. I would say the film industry is fine just not to your taste, wait it changes.

As I have gotten older I have come to realize everything I love and hold dear is turning into absolute garbage. The fact a single Disney Marvel film has made more than 5 million dollars baffles me, I would even go so far to rank the entire Marvel cinematic universe as some of the worst films on earth . . . . EVER! With Spiderman Homecoming being the worst films I have ever witnessed in my entire life, I can only imagine how bad Black Panther is quite frankly.

Me and my brother have collected over 3,000 films and a vast quantity of comics and books and by far I have seen the film industry go to absolute trash the quickest. It has ruined my experience with my own fiancee as she is unable to enjoy any film at all anymore and I am left depressed and broken by the appalling films released to the public.

Every year it is bad film after bad film. Just to name a few:
  • Jurassic World
  • Spectre
  • Kingman (entire filthy franchise)
  • Insidious (all of them)
  • Interstellar
  • Lucy
  • Birdman
  • Furious 7 (and the entire franchise)
  • King Arthur (2017)

And I will make a seperate case for Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor Ragnarok as I consider these films utter filth and mentally degrading to watch in any capacity even though I expressed my dislike toward Disney and its current film production already.

I came home one night after watching Star Wars The Last Jedi and it completely broke me. I had to drink a fourth of a giant Bacardi rum bottle to drown my depression after seeing the film. I was emotionally devastated knowing I no longer had anything to look forward to in cinema anymore and especially Star Wars which I held very dear to me. As of this year I have almost withdrawn from all digital western media and have barely touched any anime even.

I am just venting but I am curious toward the attitude of everybody else. Being a film snob I hope I am not being unfair to good films but I also feel that I would know a good film when I see it.

That's really a matter of personal taste. There are a lot of choices of entertainment out there.
I don't go to the movies much because it's too expensive. I'm only willing to invest in a ticket if it's something I really want to see.
If you don't hate Star Wars and LOTR we can still be friends :D

Have to agree with you on much of this. What little of the Marvel franchise I have seen seems to be just pandering to our inner ten year olds. "Birdman"? I'm still scratching my head. How was this so highly rated? Only watched the first F and F.; that was enough for me. However, any of the Jurassic parks was just pure escapism for me, so I'm good with them.

It's called getting older mate. I used to love comics years back but when anime came in I was horrified, I thought it was satan's work. In the mean time anime IS comics and I can't even look at them.

I had a similar problem with the new Bladerunner. Only about 30% as good as the original.

Old and grumpy, but right about it, I know I am.

Could only watch about twenty minutes of the new Bladerunner before falling asleep. In all fairness, I had to watch the old BR about three times before I understood what was going on.

I can diagnose what's wrong here.....
You have unrealistically high expectations.

I prescribe therapy....
Work on lowering your expectations.
Remind yourself that throughout the entire history of movies, every single year yielded mostly clinkers.
When you see a movie, have no preconceptions about quality what it will do.
See each with fresh eyes.
But if you expect one to be bad, don't watch it.
(There are better uses for your time.)
Judge quality by the occasional gem you find.
And even substandard movies can have something to enjoy.
I'm reminded of The Year Of Living Dangerously......
An ordinary movie wherein the stars were meh,
But Linda Hunt's performance was a joy to watch.

Sequels meeting or exceeding the original's quality are rare indeed.
Blade Runner (1982) had novelty & Rutger Hauer.
The sequel lacked both.
But think of Alien leading to Aliens.....a worthy sequel because it expanded upon the original.
And it had Ripley wearing a forklift to battle the queen.

For your enjoyment....

Speaking of Rutger, two of his many movies I thought were da bomb:

Blind Fury
The Blood Of Heroes (which I can watch over and over)

I am trying to be general here and not mention obscure titles because I could write a lengthy article about Korean cinema and why it to is garbage but I doubt many here keep up with Korean cinema. I truly do not have a clue about what people watch in in theaters anymore.

I may see Black Panther but I already know it will most likely be very horrible. I have came to realize it is very easy to plot these films in how they turn out and I can do so with 99.99% certainty now.

Horror is my forte! It is the genre I am most passionate about and I have not found a single year as of 2010 where good horror films came out in succession.

Rogue One was enjoyable for the most part although it had glaring issues. Everything else in the franchise has been lack luster.
How about
"The Lobster." :p

Yay LOTR. Also, to expand on your point, given the widespread availability of movies online (from Amazon say), it's seems rational to only purchase a ticket for movies where the movie hall experience is necessary to enjoy the movie. So the trend towards big spectacle based movies with 3D CGI. Otherwise Netflix and Amazon Prime becomes the medium of choice. I would rather save ticket money and attend live concerts, ballet, live musicals and theatre.

Greed destroys everything it touches. And America has become a nation controlled by greed. All our decisions are now being made based on the maximization of profit, rather then on any desire to increase the overall quality of life. Money is now our one and only god, as everything we do, we do in it's service.

So, stop buying. Simple. Problem solved.

I agree. For really great movies, we must go to countries who eschew wealth & greed.
Think of all the fantastic films from...
N Korea
Cuba
USSR
Pre-capitalist PRC

No, you need to look to countries that appreciate the value of art, in spite of the fact that it's not monetary value. It's sad that you didn't understand this.

How does that solve anything?

When you stop spending your hard earned cash on the crap you're be force fed, then those that produce for profit will start offering fare that you may find more palatable.
