It's about adaptation and passing on of traits increasing the odds of survival and reproduction.

Both. Depends in which sense and context you mean. Drop me and them in a cold environment with limited resources, and I would say have the advantage. But I bet I can use google to find a cheap trip to the Sunshine Coast more quickly.
