I would like to understand what Orban does that she doesn't do.
Undermining of the constitution, undermining the justice system, taking control of media,...
There's a gradual dismantling going on of democratic institutions and democratic checks and balances.
The lines that separate the powers of state (crucial to guarantee and safeguard civil liberties and guard against tyranny) are blurring and consciously being dismantled.
Such thing are also why the rating of Hungary has gone from "free" to "partly free" in recent years.
Hungarian liberty and democracy is in a downwards spiral and this is a direct result of a conscious effort by Orban and his cronies to undermine democracy and hold on to power to literally transition into sham democracy with an authoritarian leader, in the example of his hero Putin.
Frankly I'm disappointed in the EU that they don't act swiftly with great resolve to sanction them for it.
Not that I feel like they should intervene there. But there should be severe consequences for such. Countries that act like that wouldn't be able to join the EU. So why should the EU tolerate countries that are already members to start acting like that?
They shouldn't.
If it were upto me, first there should be severe sanctions with a firm deadline in place for turning stuff around.
And if things don't improve within that timeframe, kicking them out would have to be an option.
