Jeff Gordon all the way!:jam:

lol I'm a Jaime McMurray fan myself. I can't stand the rest of Roush and I hate everyone at Hendricks.

But Gordon is an amazing driver. I'm currently watching IROC.

I hate watching 5 roush cars run around a 1.5 mile cookie-cutter track and lead 290 of 300 laps. But I don't mind McMurray, it's just that those tracks can be pretty boring. I'm very impressed with Tony Stewart winning the championship last year without the strongest team. I really don't think Dale Earndhart Jr. will ever win a championship and I hope that Kurt Busch has a really bad year this year with Penske (he deserves it, in my opinion).

Yeah, I like almost everyone but Roush and Hendricks. I love all the guys at Evernham, Gibbs, and Ganassi. I was outraged to hear that McMurray was going to Roush, but that is how it works. Maybe he'll get some better cars. (I really hate Kurt Busch and is snotty little brother).

He probably will end up with better cars at Roush. McMurray's pretty talented, and I think he'll do well with Roush. I don't hate Roush completely though, I really like Mark Martin and I sincerely believe that he's the only Roush driver that should have a championship, not Kenseth or Busch, as he's been there the longest and he's come so close.

I know a lot of people don't like Hendricks, but whatever, I'm still a Gordon fan (yes, I could be considered a "fairweather" fan as I started watching Nascar back in '98 and that was the year Gordon dominated. I mean, the second half of that year his average finish was something like 2.6.) But I've endured through this mediocre stretch that Gordon's had and I really think he could do well this year. I really miss Evernham being our crew chief. I can remember the first race Gordon ran with Loomis in Daytona where they had some stupid problem dealing with the engine that could've easily been averted and they finished 37th, and that was kind of a sign of years to come. But I think that our new crew chief (Steve LeTarte) will do well. But he certainly won't be a Ray Evernham.

Well, my hatred for Hendricks doesn't come without respect for Jeff Gordon, but I do think Johnson, Busch, and Vickers are just pathetic - they remind me of Kenseth, Bifle, and Busch at Roush. I don't have any feelings about Martin, or really any of the old guys. I can't stand Captian Nemocheck and I loved Rusty Wallace.

I was very excited to see Danny Hamlin win the Bud Shootout. That was pretty cool. Ok - Truck Series starting....

Denny Hamlin, not Danny Hamlin (it might just have been a typing error, but whatever).
And yeah, I have problems with Nemechek for my own reasons (the year Busch won the championship, at the last race at Homestead, Gordon restarted fourth at the end of the race and Nemechek was a lap down, and remember, he's not in the race or the chase, and he decides that instead of going to the back of the field, the gentlemanly thing to do, he decides to affect the outcome of the championship by staying at the front. So at the restart, Gordon gets a really good start and he's just about cleared the third and second place driver, but he gets held up behind Nemechek and loses those spots and I think one more and winds up barely losing the championship).
Rusty was cool too, it's sad to see him retire. It would've been nice to see him win the 500, but it just didn't happen that way.

Yeah, but he went out on top you know. He want out the right way.

Speaking of going out on top, Mark Martin has started off his season on a good note, winning in the Truck Series last night. That was a great race, despite some pretty awful looking wrecks.

Personally I don't see the attraction. If I want to watch cars driving circles I can go to a local roundabout.

What they do is almost unbelievable. It requires an insane amount of skill and it is a real team sport, from the guys that build the engines, to the driver. NASCAR has the most loyal fans in the world (up there with European Soccer fans, and Aussie Cricket fans).

I used to hate NASCAR, until Joe Gibbs showed up - totally changed my mind. It's such a fun sport, it has a nearly year long season. :)

They don't drive in circles, they drive in ovals, tri-ovals, road courses, and alll kinds of tracks. And if you want to really experience Nascar and see why it is so exciting, go to a Nascar race. Especially a short track. It's more exciting (in my opinion) than attending any baseball or football games. I can almost guarantee that you would love it.

Point taken, guys. I'm quite interested in automotive mechanics -- I've modified both my Harley-Davidsons quite a bit, and I'd be interested in a discussion of the performance modifications of the Nascar vehicles themselves, but actually watching them drive in ovals for hours is a bit of a bore.

Well, the trick is picking a favorite driver. I never liked Nascar until Joe Gibbs showed up and I just pulled for his boys.

I have never sen NASCAR in the flesh so to say, but I have seen MOTO GP, superbikes, TOCA, F1 etc and I would have to say that having racing around a track with corners, straights, hairpins etc is more appelaing to me than seeing cars do loops/ovals etc.

I guess its each to their own, but I would wager money that the drivers in F1 / touring cars are more skilful than their NASCAR collegues

How do you think Michael Schumacher of F1 would fair in the NASCAR Championship?

I am quite sure he could get his head around turning left for a few hours, and Ferarri would learn how to make a better NASCAR than anything in existense in about 6 months ( including advertising breaks ) .

Also is it true that the tracks are of a certain design so the crowd have no problem seeing all the cars all the time?

Please tell me that is not true :biglaugh:

That's real support, that's also disgusting and I hope you go blind or at least your eyesight get increasingly worse!

The real driving sport is the WRC (World Rally Championship) This spoty is done in all conditions and all countries and all surfaces. A driver has to master the art of driving on the snow and tarmack. Driving NASCAR on tarmack in a circle is easy compaired to Rally driving.

I believe that they repair their own vehicles cars on the track in the middle of the night in certain circumstances.

SOUNDS LIKE WE HAVE A WINNER!
