It becomes a bit "wrong" when two versions of the same person believe that the original person's family is theirs.

He saw a version of himself with his family, and naturally, freaked out.

Unfortunately being a copy is always against their will. Not knowing it would definitely suck but ultimately the copy is a virgin with no family.

The mentioning of a copy or a clone here made me think of a Dr. Who episode I saw the other day involving doppelgangers controlled by workers for hazardous work and, due to adverse circumstances (solar flares), the Flesh material that was used to generate the "'gangers" animated and the doppelgangers were able to operate independently. Because they had absorbed all the workers memories and personality traits (which, frankly, are memories really) the 'gangers were basically the same persons and the original persons. An example was one of the workers remembering it was his son's birthday and thinking of him while, elsewhere, the doppelganger also remembers and thinks of his son too.

Disorder and danger ensued and, of course, all was well in the end because of the Doctor
