What are you researching in now and what was your doctorate on?
Reaction chemistry in gases.. inside engines or in atmosphere (like pollutants). Also did work on emission characterization of experimental biofuels for aircraft engines.

Fantastic, I am sure you will be well-required and appreciated in India.

I hope the murti in the Sri Ambika shrine is reworked to show her with the lion. Currently she's standing with the abhaya mudra. Last year there was a big fluffy lion standing behind her. It was quite striking (so much so that I jumped back... yes, I am a wuss :(). In the Tridevi shrine she is made of alabaster (or marble) seated on the lion.

We had a 'Mata ki Chauki' (a session devotional prayers, songs and dance) for our pocket of residences (16 in all) where the relatives also joined. Quite noisy, mundane (I did not stay for the whole time), but the young people and children had a great time with Punjabi Bhangra and Gujarati Dandiya (dances). Like every one does Bhangra during Holi and Dandiya during Navaratra.

After Devi's 'sending off' (conclusion) 'Navami' worship is done today morning, we will be able to return to our evil non-vegetarian ways. At one time this first non-vegetarian feast used to happen at my in-laws place, but our generation is old now (their son and his family now live in US), and not all of us are in good health, so I do not know if we will be going there today or not.

Beautiful. Who is depicted with Mother Durga - her three forms, Mothers Lakshmi, Parvati and Saraswati. Of course, Ganesha is always there. No puja without Ganesha, that is Shiva's boon to him. But in the second image above, we have Kartikeya (if I am not wrong) instead of Mother Parvati.

Coming with Durga Puja is Ram Leela. On Dashami, Ravana is burnt. The highlight this time was a 210 feet Ravana in Barada, Ambala, in Haryana, a little shorter than Qutub Minar in Delhi which is 238 feet (six montths to make, 25 lac Rupees (40,000 USD) and it burnt down in flat 2 minites). That is what is known as going overboard.

Yes. It's Lakshmi, Saraswati, Ganesha and Karthikeya. In Bengali tradition the four are considered children of Parvati/Durga. The entire family comes for a holiday on earth after the hard work of killing the asura and gets fed lots of rosogollas. :D

Rosogollahs. Sweets fit for Gods and Goddesses. And they are selling us chocolates. Sapristi.

Thanks, Sayak. Sondesh and Kācha Gollah too. Love them. Way back in Bikaner in 1955, Rosogollahs were 10 anna a seer. But they were larger and harder, not the soft Bengali Rosogollahs.

Today is Dashami. Durga is going away. :(
Happy memories though

I love this picture @sayak83, something about it just screams at me. I will now use it as my wallpaper. @Aupmanyav as Durga is Parvati there is hardly any need to show Her as separate when Durga is portrayed. She is so beautiful here! I am hoping to go to India next year during Navratri so that I can enjoy the celebrations.

Let that be Kolkata. The city goes berserk during Durga Puja. Another state which goes berserk is Gujarat. If you can manage it, first Ahmedabad and then Kolkata.
