Let that be Kolkata. The city goes berserk during Durga Puja. Another state which goes berserk is Gujarat. If you can manage it, first Ahmedabad and then Kolkata.

I will be spending half my trip in Nepal. By the way, @Aupmanyav, I'd love to meet you while I'm over there.

What does Navaratri celebrate?
It’s celebrated for 9 nights and 10 days, it takes place twice a year. Goddess Durga is worshipped in each of her 9 forms. Her victory over the demon Mahishasura is celebrated. Thus it’s synonymous with Durga Pooja. The more well known Navaratri takes place in autumn. There are also differences depending on what region you’re from or what school of Vedanta you’re following.

Thank you for clarifying that. I knew about the autumn celebration with Durga Puja but not the Spring one. I am all for the annihilation of evil. There is plenty of that in this world.

As Durga Maa resembles an element of nature one Navaratri falls during spring before the onset of summer and the other in fall before the begin of winter. The latter one is more known because it’s believed by some that Rama gained victory over Ravana on the 9th day, hence some worship him instead. As I’ve explained before there are different customs depending where you’re from and what philosophy you or your family follow.

I see. I need some food suggestions as I have a hard time abstaining from wheat, grains and rice. Not too keen on buckwheat...
Not many options. Flour made from water chestnut (Singhara) is one, Sabudana (Tapioca starch) is another. Fried dumplings from Buckwheat and water chestnut are not bad. I think the best way is to eat root vegetables - potato, Sweat potato, etc. They can be made salty or sweat as per your liking. I am no cooking guru but this is how my wife manages.

Today it was potato mash with pepper in the morning for my wife and it will be something like that in the evening too. Lord Shiva does not ask me to keep a fast.

I see myself eating variations of potatoes for a week. I’m a huge sucker for sweet potato so I’ll manage...I’m just gonna miss my standard roti aur sabzi.

As I said, it is solely your desire (to subsist on potatoes for a week). I would not do that. But Mr. Narendra Modi will subsist on fruits and 'nimbu pani' for nine days while fulfilling all the responsibilities of Prime Ministership a well as being the leader of BJP. He has been doing that for 40 years and twice a year. Vary what you eat. You can have a fast with one meal in the day (Ekasana) or do it for one day only.

Omg I should make my own fresh nimbu paani and take it to work lol. Anyways I might not even fast as I have to hand in assignments, let’s wait and see.
