Need help with a blind kitten.

Sacred Silence's cat gave birth to some kittens five weeks ago, and on Tuesday an accident left one of them blind, and suffering seizure like symptoms. He starting eating formula on his own yesterday, although not much.
Other than being blind, and having what seems to be a seizure if he is moved too quickly, physically he seems well. Mentally though, he seems very depressed, and sleeps most of the time.
Does anyone have any advice on helping this poor kitten get better?

OK let me share what i know. i am not an expert but i've seen many cats who lost an eye. it is a sickness most street cats get it from dust & dirt i think. but they survive even on the streets. if it loses both of its eyes then they could not stand being alone at home. i've met one cat like that. amazingly loveable and joyful cat she was. but she always looked for company. she could not stand being alone.

Oh poor kitty...:(

Well was the accident due to chemicals or was it something physical?

Second off I would get it to a vet quickly b/c they can probably correct its blindness. I had a cat who almost went blind but they were able to fix one of his eyes. The other eye had to be removed but he did ok.

If you can't get to a vet quickly, try and be there for it physically. I'm only hoping it gets well. It might even outgrow the seizures but as for blindness, I could only hope. It'll need a lot of physical stimulation.

Yes ..I agree with the rest..the kitten needs to see a vet ..he could be getting an infection. You can deal with the blindness later..I would be concerned with infection and that could be causing the seizures ...

Consider ahead of time the kitten may have to be put down.

listen, if there is an infection like it can not open its eyes and in case if it stays like that then eye balls would melt down. that's how they get blind. so if there are any kittens who's not able to open their eyes, take them to the wet. it is easily cured disease. yet if eyes stay closed too long they become blind.

It was head trauma, not an infection. Guess I should have mentioned that earlier. We've been calling around on vet prices. Wish money wasn't an issue, but unfortunately it is.

i am sorry to hear that. i do not now about trauma. i hope you find vet in a charity mood. some vets here do treatment for very small price when they know it is a street cat. don't you have any organization around you who give free treatment?

well you have a blind 5 weeks old kitten with seizures
with only 5 weeks old he won't miss much if you give him a shot now (later it becomes more and more dificult)
now the blindness will never realy pass (might improve but never to the original strenght)
seizures are unpleasent to say the least and
depression is hard to cure in animals

What You Can Do If You Are Having Trouble Affording Veterinary Care

It sounds like this kitten needs immediate medical attention, if you truly can not afford it then you should give the kitten to a cat rescue in your area.

Are you going to have the mother cat spayed?

thank YOU! i was trying to say that but you said it definetely more clearly. i could not afford if i had to pay for each animal that need help either because there are so many cats and dogs on the streets.

Disabled pets can live long happy lives with proper treatment. Depression is not hard to treat in animals, either.

i think we would agree on one thing. a vet should see it and decide what to do. even a vet could not decide what to do without seeing kitten.

midians mommy!
well I know how it is to not be able to afford to take an animal to the vet... hell I can't even take myself to the doctor cause I don't have insurance... so when I was in this situation with my dog and he was very sick the only thing I could think of to do is sit him in the front yard and I called animal control and told them he wondered up in my yard and they came and picked him up! it's free and if they can't help him they will put him down properly. so it gave me piece of mind.
