New "Interfaith DIR" Proposed

Hmmm...now that you mention it...I've never seen you in a DIR....;)
Oh, I'm in plenty, including some where I don't belong (non-purple ones). Some of'm are welcoming when we have similar values, eg, Buddhists. Others....well, they're quite territorial, so I steer clear. Oddly, the only time I ever got formally kicked out was when I was a member. I identify as a liberal (classical variety), but I was notified that I'm not. Go figure.

How is this any different in structure than the current Religious Debates area, Avi?
I'm missing the point.

I'm not sure what Avi is proposing either since "Interfaith" in common usage means a group is formed from members of different faiths who get together to discuss issues and unite around common objectives. A typical picture is:

Hi Lewis...it's Interfaith Religious Debates or Interfaith DIR.... with a unique perspective, and focus on peace and pacifism, friendship and compassion....:D

Lets say I'm hangin' out in the Interfaith DIR, Lewis, with some extremists (you know the type...:D), and one of them gets all uppity and sensitive. Now you know I'm a pacifist and all. So, If we're in an Interfaith DIR...poof...the extremist gets the penalty points.....and gets kicked out.....not me.....it's sort of an "inverted DIR"... do you see where I'm going with this Lewis ?

On the other hand, this idea came to me when I was in a debate forum...lets say the extremists are getting all huffy and nasty....if we're in an Interfaith Religious Debate forum.....and as I said, you guys know I'm a pacifist....we just put the extremists on an imaginary "ignore"....and continue the debate.....that's what happened yesterday....when Tom and Melki provided the posts that gave me the idea....I will link it here.....see post #49:

Destruction of Al Aqsa Mosque!!! | Page 3 | ReligiousForums.com

Check it out, Lewis...you will see what I mean.

Avi, I think I understand now what you're driving at. The general debate areas are subject being pretty aggressive. For example, someone asked a question about Sharia's applicability and most people responded reasonably. One person decided to post about how Muslims are violent ignoring the OP and I think getting close to hijacking the thread into one debating what Muslims are and are not.

In the old RF, rule 10 was clearly spelled out but I don't see it here. But there were blue and green DIRs - one only allowing questions and one allowing polite discussion without aggressive debating. Interfaith organizations are like green DIRs where people work on joint projects and can ask each other questions and so forth.

If all the DIRs operated as "green", then basically the entire DIR system could be called interfaith. But since some hold to the blue rules, that's not possible.

I'm not sure that an interfaith DIR would not cause confusion with religion specific DIRs but I see that there's a problem.

It's junior high school social drama all over again.
But we aren't supposed to discuss disparate moderation.

Lord have mercy what exactly have we done to deserve this?

Also unanimous majority decisions =/= tyranny of small groups.
Crazy world we live in.

Thank you, Sunny. As you begin to post in the DIR's, if you present any ideas different than the majority, you will be drummed out......but not to worry, you will always be welcome at "Avi's....:D

Well, it would require the people debating to be adherent to a faith, different from general religious debates DIR. However, it seems similar to Comparative religion DIR.

DawudTalut

Peace be upon you.
@ Avi1001
Wa alaikum salam, brother. But your basic idea of "interfaith" thing is very good. ....There is a need of a place where:

a) People of a particular faith can mention distinctive features of their faith without saying anything against other faiths.

b) People of a particular faith should genuinely try to mention good points of other faiths, and explain why they like those points.

c) Leaders of other faiths should be praised for nobility.

d) Differences are narrowed and possibility of agreement is enlarged.

e) Cooperation in all good plans and schemes for the mutual benefit of mankind must be promoted and encouraged. For instance, philanthropic projects could be discussed jointly between various faiths.

Just to clarify, a Green Interfaith DIR would be a DIR in which only respectful questions could be asked about Interfaith, and only Interfaith supporters would be allowed to debate. Is that right?

What would it mean if the DIR were blue?

DawudTalut....bingo brother...you nailed it !!!

Show me a DIR where these magic things happen !!!!

Ok....show me a Religious Debate forum where your ideas are played out !!!

What does that leave......right.....an Interfaith DIR.....and.....an Interfaith Debate Forum.

And it took a Muslim.....a Christian....and a Jew to lay it out !!!!!

Shalom and Peace to you !!!!!
