New Pope..Pope means Spiritual Father

sojourner

Annoyingly Progressive Since 2006
Thet should. Pope means Spiritual Father. I heard that on CNN.
It actually means "father" in Greek. In fact, it's a childish term, used popularly by children. Early on, all bishops and other senior clergy had that title, especially in the east.

I just read there our 1.2 billion Roman Catholics.

Are there any regulars on Religious Forums that are Roman Catholics and take the official Roman Catholic position in debates? Would they be heckled off the stage? I know one who private messaged me that they are giving up on RF (I was viewed as at least sympathetic). I don't see any others. Are liberals intolerant of conservatives and is that causing a diversity problem here?

How many of you have a positive image of Roman Catholicism? How is there still 1.2 billion?

Protestant got their Bible from the Catholics. They should be gratefull.

And then they translated it for people to actually read and understand, something to compare the conduct of their so called spiritual fathers with. A book nobody reads is worthless.

Will ALL who claim to be Christian acknowledge the Pope as their Spiritual Father?

Just asking.

No.

We have one father, the heavenly one. The pope is just a man but he's treated as if he is God himself. Its crazy.

More anti-Catholic babble. They don't treat him as if he is God himself. People, in general are under-educated on the subject but sure love the negative.

not really,

the catholic church tried to prevent the laity from reading the bible in their own language. The church fought very hard to keep the bible out of reach of the 'common' people. Thankfully some very brave christians chose to defy the church and translate the bible into english and other languages to make it available to us.

We are thankful to people like William Tyndale, who the church eventually murdered, for giving us the bible.

Even today the church still read the bible, and give sermons, in latin... a language only the priests can understand. Who else speaks latin??? seriously.

The Bible came from Rome, they invented it.

William Tyndale - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Catholic church had nothing to do with Tyndale's death.
