Non-Christians go to Hell

Many evangelical Christians preach just that. “Accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior or spend eternity in the fires of Hell.” From what I have been told about Hell, it’s a lot like spending time with my ex. Each moment seemed like eternal agony. I sure don’t want that, I already had a taste of Hell. I’m sold, where do I sign up? Many people learn about Jesus when the Gospel is preached to them. How do I know this preacher, minister, pastor or priest or whoever is preaching the right thing? I would have to put my faith in him or her. How would I know what church? There are over 10,000 flavors or Christianity worldwide. If I spent just one hour going to each and every one of these churches to investigate, it would take me over 200 years. I have also had to believe the Bible is true. This would require I put my faith in the people who compiled the Bible. The Bible didn’t just fall out of the sky one day. It took about 400 years to put it together. How do I know these people chose the right books? Then there are the books that didn’t make the cut, like the Gospel of Thomas, Gospel of Mary and many others. I would also have to put my faith in the authors who wrote the books of the Bible. I have no idea who these people were, neither do scholars. This is what God wants from people to be “saved”. It seems to be a very tall order. A person MUST subscribe to a specific idea about God otherwise that same person is damned for eternity? Actually, the Jesus of the canonical Gospels said the very opposite.

Actually, it's not that complicated. Rather than depend on any preacher or minister to preach or share the right thing read the scriptures yourself asking God to reveal the truth concerning Jesus or anything else of spiritual importance. If you are sincere and God wants you to be saved, which I believe He does, then He certainly will be faithful to respond and give you reasons to know and believe.

500 years ago a person would have been burned at the stake for even owning a Bible.

Why should anyone believe what the Bible says?

I have a better question, how could you call a god that would do that all-loving?

I'm not a christian, so you take what I say with a pinch of salt.

If it were me, I would read the bible from cover to cover. That is the original text from which (most?) christian denominations are supposed to come from. the rest is accepting that there is alot of scope for interpretation. Accepting that we can not be 100% sure on which interpretation would necessarily be Gods one is probably an aspect of a persons faith. the more we know about a religion, the less likely we are to be certian of it. in a way that is a reflection of "gods greatness" in that we are only such a small fraction of the universe and cannot cliam to be omniscient of it. we can't know gods purpose and that is why faith is necessary.

There was a story I was taught at primary school that might help. I don't know if its in the bible, but it did stick with me.

its about someone walking with god on a beach, and he asks about why there is only one set of footprints when his faith is tested. God replies, "thats when I was carrying you".

I really will never understand the people who read religious books from the hole that they are sitting on. Come on folks! That's wrong.

Actually, the Jesus of the canonical Gospels said the very opposite.
It is Yeshua in the synoptic gospels, that said the opposite; the gospel of John says you've got to believe or be condemned as well. :innocent:
This is the only rule you need to follow as a Christian, it's quite simple.....

Mark 12:30-31 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these."
That comes from a two sentence quote, and you simplify it into one.... The first is to unconditionally love God with all your mind, body, soul, and strength, then through that unconditional love, love your neighbor, as yourself.

Unbelievers don't go to hell. The Bible (in revelation) is quite specific that they're thrown into a burning lake of sulphur.

In short: exterminated.

The Revoltifarian Pamphlet Of Original Parables (POOP) has a similar passage.....
"To love one's neighbors is a fine thing. But when they're evil, then hate the %$@%^."

I know, that's why you only see the :31. :) In my opinion, those words the most important part of the verse. The author of the OP is throwing out opinions, I decided to follow suit until we know exactly what he wants to discuss.

The verse is about God first, then others later.... If you only post the bit about 'doing unto others', we find that statement by multiple different religions.... Plus without the ultimate point:

If we love one another by the energy from God, it is always sustainable; whilst we love one another under our own strength, often we seek our own fulfillment within the process in someway. :innocent:

The way I see it, that's an example of a person that is a professional plaintiff against public entities and anyone else he can goad into "violationg the rights of" him and his family members ("church,") who are also attorneys and part of a protesting/suing machine. That "church' makes a lot of money by inciting others and then suing them. There's incentive for him to be as vile as possible, while remaining carefully within the confines of the law.

I don't think the poster you are replying to was suggesting you follow that particular person, or group's, alleged beliefs. I think the poster was suggesting that you read and reach your own conclusions.
