A detailed explanation of what the soul is requires a bit of delving into the Bible. One does not 'have' a soul that dwells within the flesh, as some turn the saying to be. One IS a soul. Meaning a person. For instance, a popular expression used to be, "Poor soul.." for someone that is suffering. A good Bible study will show that soul=person or even an animal.. For instance, Adam became a "living soul." It is taken from a Hebrew word and not all translate it in the same way. But to me this context is clear. There is a dead soul, and a living soul.
